Hello to everyone who's stopped by!
I've known the Taishir pizza chain for a really long time - it feels like it's been around in our city for almost 20 years. I remember going there with my parents, then meeting up with friends as a student, and later using their delivery service. It was always pretty affordable and tasted okay.
Over the years, Taishir has expanded, and in Rostov-on-Don, we have corners in almost every shopping mall, as well as a few standalone cafes. I was preparing this review and was surprised to find out that the chain isn't just in Rostov-on-Don. I removed the list of cities, but maybe they have a Taishir in your city and you don't even know.
Anyway, enough about the past. I was walking down Puschkin Street, looking for a place to eat, and then I saw that familiar sign. It brought back a wave of nostalgia. I decided to give Taishir another try, hoping that the quality of their food had improved over time.
To make an order, you need to go up to the long counter with a display of available items. You grab a tray, and in each section, you tell the girl what you want. On top of the counter, there are monitors with the menu and prices, but they're not very clear. For example, there's information about the 'Pizza of the Day' promotion, but it doesn't say which day the specific pizza is available. Apparently, you're supposed to ask the staff for details.
The staff at Taishir is a different story. There just aren't enough of them. The poor girl was running between the kitchen and the counter, looking like she'd been through a war. And it was only mid-day, and the place wasn't that busy.
For food, you can choose pizza, salads, and drinks. The selection is small and based on what's available at the moment. There are combo deals available, and I ended up ordering one of those.
I opted for a slice of pizza, some salad, and a coffee (combo comes with just Americano). The pizza was a bit of a letdown - it was overcooked and lacked flavor. The salad, on the other hand, was a weird mayonnaise mess. I've tried many variations of this salad, as it's almost everywhere, but this one was one of the worst. It's so greasy, you can barely taste the other ingredients.
However, I'll give Taishir credit - not all their salads are this bad. I used to love their chicken and mushroom salad, and it still looks great. It's definitely more appealing, and actually tastes great. And here's a photo of my order.
As for the interior, it's a bit worn out. The chairs with soft orange cushions or wooden stools are still there, but the whole place looks like it needs a renovation. I used to love sitting by the window, but now it's not as cozy as it used to be.
Overall, I have to say, it's painful to see a once-beloved café turn into a subpar diner. It's like another place I've been to, Golden Cockerel, where the owners are banking on their old fame. So, I wouldn't recommend it.
Instead, I'd suggest checking out some of the other great places to eat in Rostov-on-Don. For example, you could try these mussels, or head to a restaurant with free wine on breakfast. There are plenty of other options to choose from, and I'm sure you'll find something that suits your taste.
