Our Go-To Oil for Now: Lucas Genesis

summarizeEditor's Summary

We've tried a bunch of oils for our two vehicles, and Lucas Genesis is now our go-to choice. We were skeptical about the price at first, but this stuff delivers. The smell is pleasant, not overpowering, and the texture is spot on - easy to pour and measure. We've noticed a real improvement in our engine's overall health. And the best part? It's widely available in stores, unlike some other brands we've tried.

Our Go-To Oil for Now: Lucas Genesis
Hello fellow car enthusiasts!
We're a pair of car owners who've tried numerous oils for our two vehicles with different engine sizes, and we're excited to share our experience with you.
We initially used oil from various brands like Mobil 1, Comma, and others. Unfortunately, some of them were a letdown – the first one increased engine wear, the second was basically just water, and the third was decent but hard to find in stores.
We eventually settled on Totachi oil for our last two cars, the bлюбирд and ikstrейл. However, the price has skyrocketed, and the canisters have disappeared from store shelves. We've tried ordering online, but there are tons of counterfeits.
Our experience with Totachi oil might've influenced our decision to switch oil brands. We spent ages deciding what to choose from the massive selection. For instance, our Hyundai Getz had the previous owner use Liqui Moly 5w-30. I'm not sure if it was the lubricant or that they never changed it in 8 years, but when we replaced the valve cover gasket and inspected the engine with a camera, it was clogged with grime.
After a Gazpromneft Promo flush, we were shocked. Plus, our taxi-driving friends swear by Lukoil oil, with nothing but good things to say.
For example, in our city, we use the same oil with a higher API rating, SN 5W-30. We bought this 4-liter canister for my Golf. Since it's a 3.3-liter engine, we've got about 700 grams left over for the next oil change or top-up.
Now, let's talk about the packaging. It's a standard 4-liter canister with a measuring scale. And, as you'd expect, it matches the actual capacity. After filling up my engine, we had about 700-800 milliliters left over, just like the label said.
At the bottom, you'll find the production date, manufacturer, and a recycling logo. It's nice to see companies taking steps towards sustainability.
Going back to those fake oils, this one at least has some protection against them.
I'm no expert, but even I can tell this is the real deal.
First off, check out the labels - not only are they molded into the canister, but they've also got some nice texture to them. But if you try to read the info on the back from a distance, forget it. You've got to get up close and personal to make out the text. Want to see for yourself? Zoom in on the photo. Or, grab your phone, fire up the camera, and point it at the QR code. Scanning it should take you straight to the manufacturer's website.
And if you remove the top cap, you'll find a seal underneath.
It's not just some flimsy foil, either - this is a foil-coated protective film with a key underneath.
We've tried cutting the can in half with a razor, and I was surprised to see it's made of three layers.
Now, about the oil itself.
As you can see, it's got a honey-like color and a relatively liquid consistency.
The smell is actually pretty pleasant, it smells like real oil, not some chemical scent. Plus, it seems to be doing a great job at lubricating. I mean, we don't have any specialized equipment to test it, but our engine on the same bike is running smoothly after two changes, and we've also driven our Go-kart for thousands of miles without any issues.
So, to sum it up, we're really happy with this oil and we definitely recommend it. The price of around 2700-3000 rubles is more than reasonable, and the quality is great.
Wishing you all safe driving and the best of luck!
