Last year, I shared my experience with Kashiyama brake pads on my Nissan Istrail, and I was really impressed with how they performed. So, when it came time to replace the front brake pads on my trusty Hyundai Getz, I was curious to see how they'd do. It turned out that the previous owner of my car didn't pay much attention to the brake system, which caused the piston to seize and wear out the brake pads on one side. To make matters worse, I also had to replace the tormoznyi disk on both sides. Of course, I replaced everything in pairs – discs and pads.

I didn't spend too much time deciding on the brake pads. If I was still unsure about the discs, I decided to go with Kashiyama. Firstly, I'd already installed similar pads on my second car, and secondly, the price was reasonable – around 2000 rubles for a set. Plus, the Japanese origin was a big plus for me.

Generally speaking, you can push the piston in using various tools. Some people use a screwdriver, others a specialized tool, but my husband and I use a regular C-clamp. I think the principle is pretty straightforward.

Next, after 'conquering' the piston, we insert the pads. By the way, before we do that, we apply some anti-squeak lubricant to the part that comes into contact with the piston and the caliper. I want to take a closer look at this step. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how it works, but this lubricant might prevent water and dust from getting in. And after applying it, the squeal really does disappear. After installing the pads, we put the caliper back in place and tighten the 12mm bolt using a wrench. Don't over-tighten it, my husband uses a regular wrench, while I use a short extension tube. Next, we put the wheel back on and give the brakes a few pumps. That's it, the pads are installed.

Now, about wear and tear - that's gotta depend on how you drive and the weight of your vehicle. I'm a pretty casual driver, cruising at around 60-80 km/h most of the time. After about six months, the pads had started to wear down a bit, but I'd only clocked around 5,000 km. Given my driving style and the mileage I do in a year, I'd say these pads should last me three to four years easy. And the best part? I haven't noticed any burnt smell from the pads when I brake - not even a hint of it.I'd definitely recommend these brake pads to anyone in the market for a reliable set.
