Leman PRO's Shipping Still Falls Short

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been shopping at Leroy Merlin for years, and while I love their affordable prices and stylish solutions for home improvement, their shipping still leaves a lot to be desired. As a fan of the store, I've gotta say, their prices are unbeatable, but it's not just about saving a buck - it's about getting your stuff on time. Unfortunately, Leroy Merlin's shipping issues have been a total letdown for me. I'm not gonna lie, I've had to deal with delayed orders and missing items more times than I can count. It's a real pain, especially when you're counting on getting something for a specific project. I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's just not getting any better. I'm starting to think that maybe it's time to look elsewhere for my home improvement needs.

Leman PRO's Shipping Still Falls Short
I've got a confession to make: my family's weird tradition of taking the train to the local shopping mall with our favorite French hypermarket instead of going for a walk has hooked me on Leroy Merlin, the home improvement store right next door. It all started a while back, probably in the early 2000s. I was already obsessed with the IKEA style, and the idea of packing as many comforts into a small space while leaving room for free movement was totally captivating. We'd go to the French market, stock up on food for the road, and then head to the adjacent building with the green triangle sign.
Prices at IKEA were a pipe dream, with even the simplest items like a table lamp or skillet out of reach. But Leroy Merlin made it look more affordable. When I spotted my IKEA lamp for half the price at the new home improvement store, I grabbed it 'just in case,' without even checking the differences. That was one of my first offline purchases at Leroy Merlin. Over time, using the 'copycat' lamp from Leroy Merlin alongside the original IKEA one revealed a surprising truth: the IKEA lamp was way more durable. The Leroy Merlin version, looking almost identical, literally fell apart – from the broken socket to the cracked mounting plate. But that didn't deter me from the store, and over the years, we've picked up some really cool stuff.
We never even thought about having large items delivered to our doorstep, as the cost was prohibitively expensive. But eventually, we caved and paid (multiple times, I'll admit) an arm and a leg for delivery – somewhere in the region of 1,000 rubles and up. Keep in mind, this was over 20 years ago, and it was really pricey.
I've been shopping at Leroy Merlin for years, and I've picked up some amazing storage solutions. I've got square and narrow shelving units in a lofts style, crates to match, big thin frames for posters and photos, paint, varnish, and brushes for DIY and crafting, an electric jigsaw, a hammer drill, and an endless supply of fixings to hang and arrange furniture in my rooms. But my pride and joy is the Larvij wardrobe system I bought from Leroy Merlin, which I had custom-designed and built along an entire wall in sections.
I managed to squeeze a narrow L-shaped shelf into the metal wardrobe system, which blended in seamlessly - it's great when you have furniture in the same style, and I also picked up a matching Larvij shelving unit with seven baskets – three narrow and four wide.
What's interesting is that the cashier, who's a keen gardener, was so impressed with the shelving units that she wanted to buy one for her own garden shed, but when she saw the price, she was taken aback. Yes, the price of almost five thousand euros is out of this world for us regular homeowners!
Fast forward to almost twenty years later, and I found myself needing to buy an additional section for the wardrobe system. I finally took the plunge!
Incidentally, after years of heavy use, the shelving unit has held up perfectly. That's what inspired me to splurge on the additional section.
Pros:Amazing storage solutionsCustomizable wardrobe systemHigh-quality shelving unitsReasonable pricesCons:Delivery costs can be prohibitively expensiveShipping issues with online ordersLack of notification for pick-up point deliveryCustomer support can be unresponsiveWhen I went back to the website of the former Leroy Merlin, the first thing I noticed was the change in name and logo. Now it's called Leman PRO.
Over time, since we no longer take the 'walking' route, I've used online delivery from the familiar Leroy Merlin only a couple of times, and in the last one, I was pleasantly surprised by the possibility of ordering even the smallest package of fixings for pickup at a cost of just 1 ruble! Hooray! Now I don't have to pay exorbitant delivery fees of at least 490 rubles and wait for the amount to reach the minimum, I thought, but besides the fixings for the additional shelves of my infamous narrow closet, which fit perfectly into the wardrobe, I didn't order anything else from Leroy Merlin. And now the store has transformed into Leman PRO.
Delivery to a pick-up point still costs 1 ruble. But there was a disappointment. They deliver the frame to the pick-up point, but not the mesh baskets to it. And what's more, you can find information online that delivery to a pick-up point is not available from Leman PRO for:
flammable liquids, items weighing over 30 kg, and items with dimensions over 300 cm in the sum of three sides.
None of these reasons applied to me, unfortunately. I had to put off buying the baskets, as delivery to my home would cost an additional 324 rubles (and that's the cheapest, discounted delivery rate!), and there was no other delivery option available for the specific item, apart from the unsuitable self-pickup from the nearest DIY hypermarket due to the huge distances. I bought them cheaper elsewhere.
Delivery of the frame to the pick-up point left me satisfied, despite the fact that the edges of the packaging were torn and the paint on the exposed legs was slightly damaged.
The item was delivered on time, and I received it quickly. What surprised me was that there was no notification of delivery to the pick-up point via email, which is very important!
There are a few more things that bugged me, like not being able to ask a question about the product I was looking at without entering my order number, and then waiting ages for a response from customer support who just asked for my order number again.
But that's just minor stuff compared to the main issue: I couldn't get the whole order delivered to a pick-up point, which would've been a lot easier and less stressful than waiting around to see if it would arrive.
Given that I couldn't even get the whole order right, I'd give Leman PRO 4 out of 5. There's definitely room for improvement, and I hope they don't slide backwards compared to the high standards set by the old French hypermarket that still has some great things going for it, even if the name's gone.
