My Visits to Da! Have Become Less Frequent, and It's Not Just the Cucumbers

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been shopping at Da! less often lately, and it's not just because their cucumbers are pricey. Two years ago, this store chain was a go-to for us, offering a more diverse selection than the other local stores like Pyaterochka and Magnit. But now, I'm not sure if it's worth the extra effort. In this review, I'll share my thoughts on what you can buy at Da! for 1000 rubles, what I like and dislike about this store chain, and whether it's still a good value for money. I'll cover their in-store bakery, international products, store layout, loyalty program, customer support, and promotions. I'll also discuss some of the issues I've encountered, such as higher prices, inconsistent product quality, limited shipping options, and a return policy that can be a hassle. Overall, I'll give you a realistic idea of what to expect from shopping at Da!.

I've been to one of my local Da! stores lately, and I was surprised to see their fresh cucumbers priced at 469 rubles.
One of the Da! stores in my cityIn this review, I'll share what you can buy at Da! for 1000 rubles, what I like and dislike about this store chain.
My receipt from today's shopping at Da!About two years ago, Da! was a pretty budget-friendly store for us, where we'd go to mix up our diet since the stores near our home, like Pyaterochka and Magnit, had a limited selection, and we wanted to try something new.
The Da! store chainDa! is a relatively new store chain in our city, and there aren't many of them. I know of only three, and they're not exactly close to my home, but they are in the newer microdistricts.
So, let's get started.
I really appreciate their convenient store hours - they're open from 8 am to 10 pm.
Da! store networkI'm not sure if I should even count this as a major plus. Other grocery stores usually work on a similar schedule, and some even run 24/7.
So, Da!'s operating hours are pretty standard for a retail chain.
Convenience for customers is a definite plus.
I've got a few issues with this.
There's nowhere to put your stuff in the store. If I'm running errands and I stop by Da! after visiting another store, I'm left lugging my bag around. It's a real pain.
Shopping carts and baskets are another issue.
There are no baskets, just two types of massive carts on wheels.
Are you really expecting me to buy more because of this? I don't think so.
It's just inconvenient.
The pricing layout is unique to Da!
I've never seen prices listed side by side like this before - on the shelf and in the fridge. It's a bit of a hassle to figure out what's what, especially when your eyesight isn't great.
Da! store networkAnd!
The prices on the shelves are displayed above the products, not next to them like I'm used to in other stores.
Da! store networkMy brain always gets a little scrambled when I walk into Da!
One thing that's actually pretty cool is that they have decent flaxseed and oat flour. I actually come here sometimes to buy those specifically.
The Da! store chainThe packaging for your purchases is usually just sitting on a shelf under that moving belt at the checkout counter. I find it really inconvenient to have to bend down or crouch to get them.
I think it would be a good idea to have at least two options: leave it as is or have the cashier offer to get it for you.
They don't have bags right now. The packaging is flimsy. I got home and it had already torn.
My purchases in Da! - the packaging didn't make it home, it was too flimsyIt even tore through the packaging with the ground beef
The shelves and cleanliness are always a plus.
The Da! store chainIt's always clean.
The Da! store chainNow for the most interesting part - the prices.
I was really surprised by the cucumbers. Today, a kilogram of them costs 469 rubles.
Da! Store NetworkOgurtcy are basically cheaper than meat here.
Pepper has been getting cheaper everywhere, but here it's 50 rubles more than elsewhere.
Da! Store NetworkOn the other hand, household chemicals are cheaper here than in other stores.
Da! Store NetworkCat food, which is my concern as a cat owner, is overpriced here.
Da! Store Network
Assortment is another area where Da! excels.
Citrus fruits are a no-go today. I didn't like the lemons or the mandarins. The lemons were wilted, and mandarins are my least favorite variety.
Da! Store NetworkI do want to give a shoutout to Da!'s baked goods, though.
Da! Store NetworkTheir bread is always a pleasure to buy - it's incredibly tasty.
One of my absolute favorites:
BreadDelicious bread from Da!I always end up buying this.
Da! store networkI also love their pastries.
Especially the croissants and apricot lattice bread - I'm a total fan!
Da! pastries are amazingThe croissants in Da! are way more powerful and flaky than the ones in Perekrestok.
The best toasty croissant - better than Perekrestok'sThis is my go-to snack from Da!:
My favorite daytime snackAnd check out this one with fruit pieces:
I love it!I'm also a fan of the yogurts in Da!
I've never seen this kind of spread in other stores - it's either sold out or not available at allI've got to say, the Sloboda in Perekrestok is a different story. Maybe I just didn't get the same one
I'm really loving it!
I'd also recommend trying their baked goods.
The bread is always fresh and tastes amazing in Da!
We tried a few different types
We really enjoyed them all.
Da! store networkDa! has a really diverse product range.
Da! store networkI've never seen these types of whipped cream in other stores
It's a great addition to coffee!
Da! store networkThe pickles are really interesting.
Prices vary - some are higher, some are lower:
Da! store networkMen often hang out around this shelf - it's perfect for a snack! But, for many, it's become a bit too pricey!
Da! Store NetworkMost of the veggies I got were of great quality. I'm really happy with that.
Da! Store NetworkI love buying different types of sausages from these stores.
You can really mix things up with your diet that way.
My purchases todayHere's what I picked up today:
My purchases today from Da!I've already talked about most of these items.
I want to give a shoutout to the great ground beef I got:
Great ground beef from Da!The meatballs I made from it turned out super tasty.
And that's all I got for 1000 rubles. I even managed to save some money for my cat's treats:
Cat food with the money I saved at Da!Let's wrap things up:
The pros and cons of the Da! store network:
One thing that's not super convenient for customers is that the price is displayed in a weird location, and the shopping bags on the checkout counter need to be tilted (which can be a hassle for older folks), only large carts with wheels are available, and there's no shopping basket option.
The prices for some items are a bit steep.
Some fruits often look like they've been sitting around for a while.
I'm curious, what's going to happen to these fresh cucumbers that cost almost 500 rubles per kilogram? Nobody seems to be buying them. Are they going to get thrown away or will the price be reduced soon?
On the plus side, the product variety is great.
Some items are actually priced lower than I expected.
There are also healthy food options available at affordable prices.
My purchases from Da!Will I still be shopping at this store?
I guess I'll keep going back.
This place has great baked goods, fresh milk, and a wide variety of flours, as well as a much broader selection of groceries.
And... who doesn't know that Da! also sells random knick-knacks, like clothing.
I hope my review was helpful.
If you're looking for more budget-friendly stores to buy groceries, check out these links:
I recently went to Yarche and made a delicious dinner, which you can read about here.
People complain about Svetofor, but they still go there because it's cheaper here's why.
I've been noticing a trend in smaller towns where budget-friendly stores like Smile of Rainbow are popping up everywhere. They offer a huge selection of cosmetics at affordable prices.
I recently tried out another budget store called Yet that just opened up in my town. I ended up buying a whole package and I'm planning to visit them again soon. They have everything from cosmetics to food, clothing, shoes, textiles, dishes, decor, stationery, and so much more at budget-friendly prices.
