A Disappointing Surprise with Vau-Boxes: Not Worth the Hype

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently traded in my old silverware for a Vau-box, expecting to find some hidden gems. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The box contained some cheap trinkets that barely covered the cost of the Vau-box itself. The real kicker was the lack of build quality – the items felt flimsy and cheaply made. If you're looking for a fun surprise, you might enjoy Vau-boxes, but don't expect to get your money's worth. I'd recommend exploring other options for a better value, especially when it comes to shipping and customer support.

Hello friends.
I recently traded in my old silverware for a new ring at a discount in Sanlaithe. I was over the moon that I managed to get it sorted out successfully, because it had just been lying around and taking up space.
The amount I got back was exactly 5,000 rubles, of which I spent 4,675 on the ring, and there was a small remainder left over. They don't give change, so what's a person to do? I didn't want to give Sanlaithe a single kopek.
At first, I thought I'd use the remaining amount to buy a thin silver chain or pendant, but then I decided it would be better to get a Vau-box. Who knows, maybe there'll be something worth a lot more inside. Plus, I could write a review. Right? Right? See how sneaky I am.
These Vau-boxes (or surprise boxes, as they're called by a competitor brand starting with S) have gained a reputation for being hit-or-miss. Some people are super happy, while others are super disappointed, but the general consensus is that brands are just dumping their old, unsold stock that nobody wants.
But let's be real, emotions are priceless, and the excitement you get from unwrapping a mystery package can make up for the disappointment of getting a cheap trinket.
A small pyramid of Vau-boxes sat on the counter next to the object of my desire – free pendants.
The promotional sign offered to let me try my luck for 777 rubles, so I didn't bother to dig deeper and just tapped the top one.
While the sales associate was busy wrapping up the box in a bag (clearly, she'd managed to meet her sales targets for these boxes that day), she told me that the inside item was worth at least 1,500 rubles, which meant I'd be making at least double my money back.
She also mentioned that there were no rings or other size-specific items inside.
Okay, cool. I didn't have any high hopes or expectations. Whatever I got, I'd be happy with.
I unwrapped my package in the food court of a shopping mall, just in case I needed a sweet treat to soften the blow of a disappointing accessory.
The item was wrapped in a small box tied with a white ribbon, which contained a familiar drawstring bag.
Opening it up... and... and... what's this?
I saw the tag that said "earrings" and was completely stumped on what they looked like, given how tiny they were.
I pulled them out of the little pouch.
It turned out they were earring extenders with a tiny triangle on the end.
I'd never worn anything like it before, so I wasn't sure how to feel about them at first.
After fiddling with them, I decided they were a bit cheap-looking - the silver was minimal, and there were no stones or embellishments.
I couldn't find the item in the app with the specified article number - I guess it was discontinued.
But I did find similar ones, just with circles instead of triangles. They cost 670 rubles.
I think the price of my accessory is about the same - 777 rubles for the Vau-box, and an extra 100 rubles for the box, bag, and the sales associate's smile.
My thoughts
I was left disappointed. I'd just gotten rid of some old junk, and I wasn't in the mood to create more.
I don't think I'll ever wear these, they're just too small and dainty for my taste. To be honest, I'm not a fan of chain earrings in the first place. I think they're more suited for young, delicate girls with a slender neck and rosy cheeks. Maybe I'll wear them a couple of times just to see what all the fuss is about, but other than that, they're just a waste of money.
These are literally the cheapest items in the entire catalog, and you can tell they're not even coated with rhodium – the metal looks yellowish.
They don't even add any style to your outfit.
Is it worth spending money on these fancy boxes?
If you just want to satisfy your curiosity, go for it. But honestly, I think it's not worth the 40 seconds of anticipation and the 777 rubles spent on this cheap trinket that's just going to collect dust in your jewelry box.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention something else.
Along with the earrings, the box came with a card that lets you participate in a weekly draw for a 3,000 ruble gift certificate.
I think Sanlight realized that the 670 ruble earring in a 777 ruble box was a bit of a letdown, so they threw in a chance to win another 3,000 rubles.
That's it, thanks for reading.
