My Childhood Obsession: Why I'm Still Hooked on Totally Spies!

I'm taking a break from skincare reviews to share something a bit more personal. Talking about childhood cartoons or heartwarming movies always brings back a flood of nostalgia. Still, I wanted to share my all-time favorite cartoon, Totally Spies!

Ah, the good old days when I'd binge-watch my favorite cartoons on Fox Kids and Jetix. I was glued to the screen, and these channels were only available on cable back then. Those were the days! Of course, I had my fair share of favorite cartoons, but Totally Spies holds a special place in my heart. It's a classic tale of girl spies saving the world from villains while navigating high school life. Let me give you a quick rundown of the main characters. Samantha, or Sam, is the smart and responsible one. She's the kind of person you'd either be or know in school. And then there's Alex. Ugh, she used to drive me crazy with her cluelessness. She's like a kid who throws tantrums, gets offended, and does all sorts of crazy stuff. Out of the three, she's the most into sports. And my absolute favorite is Clover. I never thought I'd say this, but she's the one who drives everyone crazy. But she's also the most ready for anything. I get it, she's obsessed with clothes, boys, and being spoiled. But back in the day, I wanted to be just like her - cool and all that. The show's got some interesting characters, and I've got to say, I love the anti-hero, Mandy. She's always competing with Clover, and it's pretty clear why - they're both a bit self-absorbed and love to show off. The only thing that sets Mandy apart is her voice acting, and let me tell you, it's perfect!

Each episode starts with a flashback to what went wrong, and then we're introduced to the mission for the agents. I'll be honest, the animation used to be my thing when I was a kid, but now it's just so overdone in anime that it doesn't really resonate with me anymore.

Every episode, the girls fall for a new guy, and each story is basically the same. I think there were a few episodes where the guy stuck around for a while, but other than that, it's just a new guy each episode, and there's barely any real romance going on.

The girls' lives are pretty ordinary, but they live it up - they're always shopping, getting beauty treatments, and living in huge houses with no real problems to speak of.

What's crazy is that the whole city is basically run by this organization. No matter where my friends are, the portal always opens and whisks them away to HQ.

It's all run by the lovable Jerry, who lives with his mom. He's a middle-aged guy who's totally obsessed with his work and only cares about it.

My favorite part of the show was when Jerry would give them gadgets. It wasn't just some boring binoculars and knife – all these cool tools were hidden in the girls' stuff like nail polish, compact mirrors, backpacks, and hair clips.

Jerry would show them these items, explain them super fast, hand them over to the spies, and send them off on their mission.

Story time: I once swiped my mom's compact mirror and was running around the living room with it, whispering, 'With this mirror, I can reach anyone.'I still remember that moment, even though it's not that important.

Each episode follows the same basic structure: school, boys, mission, failure, solution, win, and then they move on with their lives. That's it in a nutshell.

It's weird, but you kind of know what's going to happen, and yet you still watch because it's interesting.

Since I mentioned the spy gadgets, I'll continue. They play a huge role in the story because it lets you experience the process in a unique way. These items are always somehow unexpected and

Every time the spies had some issues with the equipment, because they just didn't know how to use it properly. The training only lasted 20 seconds

The villains changed every time, but I remember a series where they all came together as a team and decided to take over the world. That was unusual. By the way, all the villains were pretty clueless, and their reasons for being evil were pretty strange too

The spies always got the short end of the stick. One time they turned into women weighing over 200 kg, another time into animals, and another time into kids. In short, it was not only about saving the world, but also about getting back to normal

Jerry also showed up at the end of the series to steal the spotlight (just kidding)

When everything was over, the spies went back to their normal lives and dealt with the guys they left behind

I have to admit, the show's formula can get a bit repetitive. Every episode starts with a mission briefing, and then the girls go off to save the day. But despite the predictability, I still found myself hooked.

What I love about this show is how unobtrusive it is – it's perfect for when you need to take a break and clear your head. The characters are all super interesting, and sometimes the plot even keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even after all these years, I still can't get enough of this cartoon.
