We were looking forward to a fun weekend with my son, so when we stumbled upon 'Three Cats: A Time-Traveling Adventure' at the movies, we decided to give it a shot. The title seemed like a big cartoon that could hold its own against the previous kitten adventures, and it didn't disappoint.
My kid barely waited for the show to start, and as it turned out, he was worrying for nothing – the room was almost empty, just another mom and her kid besides us. But, on the other hand, we had the place to ourselves, which was perfect for a kid like mine who's still pretty small – no one was blocking the screen. So, I could not only enjoy the story but also take photos of the screen without any issues. And then, after a brief intro, the actual show finally started. We immediately recognized the familiar trio of kittens, complete with all the usual attributes, phrases, and atmosphere of the show. Even during the trailer, I found out that the show was being screened to commemorate the show's 10th anniversary. I was actually surprised – It's crazy to think it's been 10 years since the series premiered. I even went back to fact-check some of the details online.
The series first aired on October 24, 2015, on STS.
I have to admit, I was a bit puzzled when the movie came out in December instead of October. Maybe the creators had a different plan in mind. So, we were all set to watch the kittens travel through time, but instead we got the usual series episodes on screen.
I think the movie is amazing, kind, and adorable, and it has a positive impact on kids. But I have to admit, I was a bit confused watching the usual series episodes after expecting a full-length movie.
What really mattered, though, was that my kid was into watching the new episodes, and I just had to accept that I wouldn't learn all the information beforehand.
Even though each series is drastically different from the last one, there's still some sort of moral takeaway or life lesson that sticks with you.
Honestly, I was surprised by how different these series are. They're all about completely different situations, cats, and even where the focus isn't always on the three main kittens. What I also noticed is that some series are really short, like the standard ones you'd see on kids' channels, while others are much longer.
It looks like they'll be breaking these down into 2 or 3 parts later, just like with some other separate series. I was starting to think my son was getting tired of the series format, but just as he was about to get restless, the cartoon we'd been waiting for finally started.
In the cat family, today's a big day - the 10-year anniversary of when mom and dad first met. Everyone's excited for the celebration, but first, they need to swing by Grandma Isolde's place to pick up a special gift. It just so happens they stumble upon an old couch that turns out to be a time machine, and before they know it, they're off on an epic time-traveling adventure.
I've got to say, the creators nailed it by incorporating the first round birthday celebration of the kitten family into the storyline. It's a bit weird that it's more about getting acquainted than a wedding anniversary, but hey, that's a minor quibble. The nods to the number 10 throughout the movie are a nice touch, and they definitely keep you guessing about where it all started. I also appreciate how the story unfolds in a logical and engaging way for kids. As an adult, it's easy to anticipate the plot twists, but for preschoolers, the surprises are what make it so captivating.
One thing I loved was how the trailer didn't give away too much, but still managed to convey the excitement of the journey. The fact that the movie's duration is shorter than others didn't detract from my experience. I was curious to see the kittens' adventures unfold. The family goes back in time to visit the Stone Age, ancient civilizations, the Middle Ages, and even witnesses the Industrial Revolution. They also get to see the mom and dad's first meeting, exactly 10 years ago.
I appreciated how the pacing wasn't too rushed, yet still engaging. The 1 hour 6 minute duration flew by for me.
Duration: 1 hour 6 minutes
Honestly, I found it tough to figure out if the listed runtime was for the full-length feature or included the episodes shown beforehand. In every era, they're waiting for challenges, dangers, and hilarious adventures – from chariot races to rescuing mom from a medieval king's castle. But to get back home and still celebrate their anniversary, the kittens and their parents have to not only navigate through time but also play a key role in their own story.
I liked how the authors decided to show different eras, each with their own interesting features.
What really stood out to me was how easily I could tell, for example, when we were in ancient times versus the industrial era. Even my kid was able to follow the plot twists. Of course, everything was adapted to fit the characters and the way kids think today, and that was definitely done to make a great impression. I loved that the whole story was super positive, without any unnecessary drama. Everything got resolved easily, like it was meant to be. It all felt really true to the spirit of the 'Three Cats' cartoon. The ending was a bit
As I expected, but that's probably what you'd get from a cartoon with such a low age rating. So, my kid was happy with it.
I also wanted to mention the good dialogue and awesome soundtrack. Everything was well-balanced and professionally done, which made the cartoon feel atmospheric and memorable.I'd say that, in the end, the cartoon 'Three Cats. Time Travel' left a lasting impression, and most importantly, my kid was happy with it.
