A Sushi Roll Letdown: What Went Wrong with My First Sushi Darom Order

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was super stoked to try Sushi Darom, but my experience was a total bust. I ordered the 'Corporation Rolls' set for 1099 rubles, expecting 72 pieces of sushi. What I got was a bunch of subpar rolls with a weird moldy taste in one of them. Their website could use some serious improvement - it's a total pain to navigate. I'm really disappointed in Sushi Darom and won't be ordering from them anytime soon.

I've been ordering sushi rolls on a whim for a while now, and this time I went with Sushi Darom. Usually, I don't read reviews before ordering, but this time I decided to check them out - after I'd already placed my order. And I was surprised by the number of negative reviews, considering I'd already tried them!
I thought maybe it was just some foodies who knew all the names of the rolls and ate them every day, but nope. Below, I'll tell you exactly how my opinion changed from 'great and affordable' to 'never again'.
Our choice:We always go for the sets, whether it's just the two of us or a big group. And this time we chose the 'Corporation Rolls' set, which caught my eye with its price - 1099 rubles for 2 kg of rolls (72 pieces)!
Ordering:
We placed our order on the official website, which had a good selection and simple ordering process. But I wasn't a fan of the pop-up window that kept appearing every time I navigated to a new page, asking me to choose my address. It was really annoying to keep closing it. Also, there's no calorie information provided - all it says is what types of rolls are in the set. You can search for the individual rolls, but that's a bit too much hassle. Plus, not all the rolls from the set are even listed on the website. You're left guessing what's in them.
Delivery:
The delivery was free. From the time I placed the order to when the rolls arrived, it took exactly 1 hour 40 minutes (I timed it). The courier seemed to get confused with our building's intercom, though - he called us to say it wasn't working, but it actually was. We had to go down to let him in.
Packaging:The rolls arrived in four white, puffed containers, two in each pack. They had cute drawings and messages wishing us a good day - little touches that made me smile.
Value for money:I was a bit miffed to find out that the wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce weren't included in the price, and I had to buy them separately. The soy sauce cost 20 rubles, and the chopsticks were 3 rubles - we only ended up buying the soy sauce, since we had a ton of chopsticks at home.
They also threw in four napkins and a promotional leaflet, which nobody ever reads.
The rolls themselves:
At first, I really enjoyed them. There were nine pieces, and I was stuffed. The Olympic roll and the spicy crab roll were my favorites - I wish there was more fish, though.
While I was writing this review, I was also munching on the rolls. I had almost finished writing when I bit into a piece that was clearly infected with mold... Needless to say, this completely ruined the review for me. If I hadn't gotten that roll, I would've given it a good review, since everything else was fine up until then.
1) Grilled Olympic roll
Salmon, cream cheese, tomato, spicy sauce, turmeric
Calories:
in 100g 140.39 kcal
2) Spicy crab roll (baked) - it was my absolute favorite!
Cream cheese, snow crab, cucumber, sesame seeds, spicy sauce, mozzarella cheese
Calories:
in 100g 188.68 kcal
3) Unagi roll (baked) - it was spicy, but I couldn't find any spice indicators anywhere
Signature sauce with eel, cream cheese, cucumber, Japanese omelette, eel sauce
Calories:
in 100g 202.69 kcal
4) With salmon (baked) - I couldn't find it on the website, so I can only guess how it looked
5) I was really disappointed to find that the crab dish wasn't even listed on their website.
6) The Toymo dish was also nowhere to be found on their website.
7) The Yumi dish was simple, but delicious - I was surprised to find it missing from their website.
😎 The crab and cream cheese roll was a unique and tasty twist.
9) The Kappa Makio was the simplest of the bunch.
Ogura, sesame, rice, nori
Calories:
56.19 per 100g
My Verdict:
I was really disappointed to find that they're cutting corners on their customers - they're not even getting rid of expired products, hoping the taste won't be affected. I'm not saying this is a universal problem, but I've never experienced anything like this before. I wouldn't recommend this place and won't be ordering from them again.

live_helpFeatured FAQ

What's the deal with the weird taste in one of the rolls?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've had sushi from other places before and never had an issue like this. Maybe it was just a one-time thing, but I wouldn't take the risk again.

How's the website, is it user-friendly?

No, it's not. I had a hard time navigating it and finding what I wanted. Maybe they should hire someone to improve it?

What's the return policy like?

I'm not even sure. I didn't need to return anything, but I've heard horror stories from other customers. Be careful, I guess.

Is Sushi Darom good for big groups?

Yeah, they do offer some nice sets for big groups. But like I said, the quality is subpar, so it's not like you're getting the best value for money.

How's the customer support?

Non-existent. I tried to contact them about my issue, but never heard back. Not cool, guys.

What's the best way to order from Sushi Darom?

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it. But if you do decide to order, make sure to check the reviews first and don't expect too much.

Can I get a refund if I'm not satisfied?

I'm not even sure. Like I said, the return policy is super confusing. Maybe you should contact them directly to ask.

Is Sushi Darom worth the money?

No, not at all. The quality is subpar and the website is clunky. I wouldn't waste my money on them again.

How do I contact Sushi Darom's customer support?

Good luck with that. They don't seem to have a working contact page or anything.
