Hello everyone!
I've been binge-watching dramas lately, and I've come to realize that the year of release doesn't really matter – whether it's this year, five years ago, or ten years ago. What matters most is the genre, the cast, and the quality of the filming.
Some dramas have an enticing description, a great poster, and a trailer that makes you want to watch it, but the actual drama ends up being a letdown.
On the other hand, a drama might have a lackluster main photo, a vague preview, but still manage to be a great show.
This drama, for example, is a bit of a wild ride. It's quirky, but it's also strangely captivating. There are plenty of unanswered questions, plot holes, and a lack of logic, but somehow it still manages to keep you hooked.
This drama is an old one, released in 2017 and consisting of 20 episodes. The story follows Kim Jong Sam, who was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. He spent 10 years in prison, but managed to escape. The circumstances of his escape led him to steal the identity of detective Oh Il Seon and join the detective team.
I found it weird that Kim Jong Sam was condemned to death for a crime that wasn't even proven. He spent his entire youth in prison, along with his friend, who was also accused of being an accomplice and sentenced to 10 years.
Kim Jong Sam's friend was found guilty of being an accomplice, but they're both innocent. They couldn't even afford to hire a lawyer to help them with their case. But Kim Jong Sam managed to find a way to use the prison's secret system for completing clandestine tasks.
Naturally, he took advantage of this opportunity. The role of Kim Jong Sam is played by Yun Gun San, who does a great job in this drama. I'm not a huge fan of this actor, but he does a good job in some dramas, like Vrazi, Osobnyak, Vera, and Kap Don.
However, Kim Jong Sam's friend is a completely unnecessary character. He might have been useful at the beginning, but he's just a waste of space. Kim Jong Sam's freedom is short-lived, and he's got a whole new set of problems to deal with – figuring out what happened to him 10 years ago and just keeping himself alive.
He witnesses the death of a young detective and, in a bizarre move, decides to take the detective's name for himself. Luckily, O Il Son has just transferred to a different department, so nobody really knows him. At first glance, it's hard to see how someone who's spent 10 years in prison can just waltz in and start acting like a detective, especially when smartphones and other tech are still new to him.
Kim Jong Sam's been dreaming of this career since his youth, studied for it, and would've made a great detective if not for the tragedy and the unfair conviction. But, as they say, if only... and for now, the guy's got to wing it, especially since some people are already suspicious of him.
Chin Jin Yong, who plays a police officer and a highly skilled one at that, is also a great addition to the drama. However, her ambition and tendency to take charge in everything make it hard for her to form relationships not only with her colleagues but also with men.
This new guy is super suspicious, behaving strangely and reacting strangely – we need to get to the bottom of this. Of course, the secret surrounding him couldn't stay hidden for long, and she eventually understood it. Together, they started working on solving the case, and as it turned out, she's connected to it too.
I really enjoyed the detective duo – they made for a great team and left a lasting impression. The plot was engaging, even if it didn't always make sense. This was a solid detective story – I might not re-watch it, but I enjoyed it.
If you're looking for more dramas with the same actors, check out Pinochio, Chef Kim, Vera, Blood, Mansion, While You Were Sleeping, Doctors, and Cap Don.
