I'm not exactly a seasoned viewer of Korean dramas, but after getting hooked on 'Penthouse', I'm now a die-hard fan. This show has it all – drama, romance, and a whole lot of crazy twists and turns. I stumbled upon it while browsing through the 'Ivi' platform, where it had an impressive 8.8 out of 10 rating. The show's opulent setting and complex characters immediately drew me in.

Choi Soo-jin is an incredibly ambitious woman, the queen of the Gera Palace. But at the same time, she's a woman who needs love. I lost count of how many sacrifices she made for love and power in this drama. She pulled it off effortlessly, to be honest. This anti-hero was slightly less annoying than Sim Su-ryeon's husband (who's another 'fruit'!).

The heroine, O Yeon-hee (played by actress Eugene, Kim Yu-jin), is sweet as a kitten, but she's got a dark secret that she'll be paying for a long time. Interestingly, the actress who played such a complex role is also a soloist for a Korean girl group.

After Sim Su-ryeon, my sympathy went to Kim Hae-in (played by actress Shin Ye-eun). The actress's performance is interesting, and the character's story is complex, just like the others, but what caught my attention was her appearance – it was both pleasant and off-putting at the same time.

I have to say, the actress in her mid-40s looked like she'd been heavily influenced by plastic surgery and Botox. Her colleagues, who were 5-6 years younger, looked like they were in their mid-20s, but not 38-40 like she did. The main character, Go Sang Ah (played by Yoon Ju-Hi), really grated on me with her stupidity and complete lack of development over the three seasons as a person.

This reminds me of those movies about airheaded girls/women. This is her. And her husband's not exactly charming, both in looks and personality - Lee Kyu-Jeong. By the way, about the men in Penthouse. The casting is really interesting. For example, while the female characters are all attractive, regardless of whether the guy is good or bad, the male characters are the opposite - the worse the guy is, the scarier he looks.

Take Ju Dan-Hae (played by Oh Ji-Hun) for example. He's the husband of Sim Su-Ryeon. His looks and mannerisms were really off-putting. Kudos to the casting team. On the other hand, Ha Yun-Chul (played by Yoon Jong-Hoon), the husband of Chong So-Jin, was the opposite of his wife in terms of personality. I felt a bit sorry for him.

I have to say, my husband and I are pretty similar to my in-laws in terms of personality, but my sister-in-law and her husband are a whole different story - they just didn't mesh from the start. Aside from the drama that unfolds in the adult world, the kids in these families have their own drama going on, and I didn't want to single any of them out in this review, since I'm a bit out of my teenage years and just wanted to see each of them get a little 'treatment' throughout the series or at least in some moments. Their desire to be cool, to be the best student at music school, often got more intense than their parents' drama.

By the end of season two, 'Penthouse' had climbed to 8th place in the top 50 Korean dramas, and that's definitely worth noting - I mean, the show itself. This is a really intense drama that'll have you feeling a lot of emotions - sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, often getting angry, but not always feeling satisfied with the plot. There'll be scenes that feel like utter nonsense, but you can get so invested in the story that you'll feel like you're right there with the characters, not just watching on your screen. All in all, I'd definitely recommend checking it out!
