I recently binged the entire series, even though I'm not a fan of Jigga or Oxana. They're always in the spotlight, but I'm a fan of other shows, and Jigga can definitely bring some humor and personality to the table as a guest.
I started watching to compare it with my favorite show, the Kardashians, and they both show personal life and daily life, not just that.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of the show is just ads - 60% of each episode is just Ozon trying to sell me stuff. If I'm comparing it to the Kardashians, they also have ads, but they're not as pushy. They promote their own brands in a more tasteful and interesting way, and you get to see the behind-the-scenes stuff. Here, it's clear that Oxana has her own brand, but it's not just her - she's working with someone else, and we have no idea what she's actually doing or what her business is about. The only thing we know is that she gets picked up and dropped off for shoots, and she's not even aware of what's going on. It's pretty clear that the main goal is to get paid.
For me, it's way more interesting when people are passionate about what they do and actually care about their work. It's something that earns my respect and makes me want to learn more about what they're creating.
I've got to give Jigga props for being genuine about his passion. It's clear he's all in on his music career, even in the show it's obvious that it energizes and inspires him. He's involved in every step of the process, which is a huge factor. He's not as immature as they try to make him out to be. This is his job, and he's killing it. I'm not even a fan of his music, but I picked up on that.
I was surprised by a moment in the show where his daughters and Oksana were complaining that he doesn't do anything else and doesn't have any hobbies. To me, he's just dreaming big about his passion, and come on, can you really criticize someone who's making a living doing what they love, creatively speaking, at least? That's just hard for me to swallow.
Watching Oksana is like seeing a multi-tasking machine in action. She's a mom of four, managing a garden, seedlings, work, a farm, a home, animals, construction, and a not-so-great husband on top of that. But if you strip away the glamour, she's actually a pretty great idea generator. Her creativity results in some amazing things – she's a 5-star mom, but she's also got a team of nannies and tutors to help her out. The garden seems like her own personal project, but I'm pretty sure she has no idea what bok choy looks like. As for her job, let's just say she's not exactly passionate about it. She's a brand ambassador, and her real passion is being a social media influencer. The farm is a different story – I think Jigga's behind a lot of the financial support, and Oksana's just giving orders on what to build and how. It's not easy, but she's got a team of helpers – her parents, to be exact. There are plenty of women out there who are inspired by Oksana's 'selfless' lifestyle, where the men are clueless and the women do all the heavy lifting. But I think there's more to it than that. Oksana claims that's just the way it is, but those of us with eyes to see and a brain to think know that's not the whole picture.
It's pretty clear from the first few episodes that Oksana and Jigga's relationship is on the rocks. Meanwhile, Jigga's not getting any hints from Oksana that things are going downhill. Let's be real, men can be pretty dense when it comes to reading between the lines. If a woman's smiling and laughing in their face, they think everything's fine – and it's not just Jigga being clueless.
I've got to say, there are two sides to every story, and in this case, Oksana's side is pretty revealing. She's forgiven Jigga for his past mistakes, and even had another kid with him after that. They were planning on having another one, and they were even building a house with the money Jigga was earning. But it's clear that she doesn't really love him, given what she's saying and how she's portraying him to the public. As a woman, it's easy to understand why she might struggle to keep the family together and stay in the relationship after what happened. But my question is, why did she stay with him for so long and build a life together if she was just going to walk away like that? It's like she's got a replacement for Jigga lined up, and that's why she's not really invested in the relationship anymore. I mean, all the work she's put into building a life with him is great and all, but it's not worth it if she's just going to leave him hanging like that.
I've got to say, the moment where Oksana says she wants to become a more playful cat-like person is kind of weird to me. She's saying she wants to become weaker, but isn't that exactly what she should be developing in her relationship with Jigga? By recognizing and appreciating his help and support, and not being afraid to ask for it, that's how you build a strong relationship. I know from personal experience, a little bit of praise and appreciation can go a long way in keeping a man happy and committed to the relationship.
I love how Jigan acknowledges his mistakes, takes responsibility, and is genuinely working on himself. He's been on the right path for a while now, ditched his bad habits, and prioritized his health. He's even started earning a living for his family, paying off debts, and taking care of their home. What I find impressive is that he's always glued to his phone, but still manages to stay in tune with Oksana's conversations with her family and her desires – and he actually acts on them. Like that time she wanted an elk, and he went out and bought one for her. Of course, she gave him some grief for not getting it right, but I think it's sweet that he tried. The flower incident was also adorable – he's like a romantic, taking her on horseback rides and picking her a wildflower. But then Oksana would go and give him a hard time, saying he didn't get it right, that she wanted a specific type of flower. I'm like, what's the issue here? If Oksana had just told him she wanted tuits, he'd have gotten them for her in a heartbeat. But no, she's always finding fault in things.
Now, I know what you're thinking – that I'm making excuses for Jigan. But honestly, I wasn't sold on him at first. I thought he was just a pretty face, and I was rooting for him to leave Oksana already. But as the series progressed, I started to see a more nuanced picture. It's like they're trying to manipulate our emotions, making us feel all the feels without actually giving us any substance.
I have to say, when I watched Jigan's other interview, he mentioned that he was given a goal on how to behave. He had no idea what Oksana was talking about, so it was actually beneficial for her that he was showing himself superficially, making her look better in comparison. But Jigan eventually starts speaking openly and honestly, and I genuinely believed him.
When Oksana spoke to the cameras alone, with a stone-cold face and an unchanged voice, it moved me to tears, but I didn't feel like it was truly affecting her.
The Kardashians have a similar dynamic. They've filmed some intense moments in their lives, like betrayals, theft, and arguments. They're not just acting for the camera; they're living with it. They're used to showing themselves without makeup and being happy, but they also show their vulnerabilities and how they deal with pain. They're not afraid to show their imperfections and take the heat for it. They're not afraid to show their struggles and how they overcome them. Take Khloe and her cheating ex with addiction issues, for example. There's a parallel there, but things are much more complicated for Khloe. And yet, instead of sitting there and talking about how useless he is and how he changed, she doesn't judge him. She's living with it. And yes, she forgives and isn't afraid to show it, saying out loud that it's her decision. Of course, he ends up betraying her again, but that's a different story. My takeaway is that they're living their lives, not judging others, but learning from their experiences. If you've taken on that responsibility and forgiven the betrayal, don't live in the past. Build your relationships differently and speak your mind about what you want and need from them.
Relationships are complicated, and I'm not going to sugarcoat it – this show's got a lot going on. But I want to focus on one aspect: the dynamic between the characters' kids.
I've gotta say, I found their relationships to be a bit off. Oksana's acting like a narcissistic mom, like she's competing with her kids and trying to prove herself better than them. Some of the interactions between them are just weird, and don't even get me started on Ariel's storyline. It's like she's trying to get attention from her parents, specifically her mom. The way she's going about it is pretty disturbing. I mean, I've seen pictures of Ariel, and she's a beautiful kid. It's like she's putting on a show, and it's not just about getting attention – it's like she's trying to provoke a reaction.
As I watched the show, I started to think that maybe the creators were trying to attract a female audience, to show how hard it can be for women to deal with unsupportive partners. But the more I watched and read the comments, the more I realized that a lot of people are seeing right through it. In any relationship, there are two sides to the story.
Even with my three-star rating, I still think it's worth watching – especially for psychologists or anyone interested in relationships.
