My Disappointing Experience with Pegasus Airlines

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've had a string of bad experiences with Pegasus Airlines, and each time, something goes wrong and ruins the trip. Recently, I returned from Turkey, and we stayed at the amazing Swandor hotel in Kemer. If it wasn't for the excellent service and the sea, I would've been heading home angry. A 5-star trip implies a comfortable transfer to and from the hotel with minimal stops, but our return journey was a total disaster. We spent 2.5 hours on a huge bus, with 1.5 hours wasted picking up other tourists. To top it off, the airline overcharged us for their services.

Recently, I returned from Turkey, and we stayed at the amazing Swandor hotel in Kemer. If it wasn't for the excellent service and the sea, I would've been heading home angry.

They overcharged us with the airline. Initially, they told us we'd be flying with Turkish Airlines, and we prepared ourselves for certain conditions. But it turned out to be a subsidiary with non-reclining seats, narrow space between rows, delays, and apathetic flight attendants in situations that required their intervention – and no registration or seat selection.
On the day of departure, Pegasus' website was down, and we still hadn't received our tickets. I had a confusing conversation with their customer support:
- The website isn't working, no tickets, leave for the airport in a few hours, what to do?
- Go to the website, download your tickets.
- The website isn't working.
- Yes.
- How do I download my tickets?
- I don't know.
Aeroflot has subsidiaries like Russia and Pobeda, but you always know what you're flying with. With Pegasus, you're expecting Aeroflot-level service, but you end up flying with Pobeda, which at least doesn't delay and gets the job done.
You don't need to attend the meeting with the guide for check-out; they'll just force you into excursions, and nobody will register you for the return transfer.
We booked one excursion to Tachtal for $62 (they promised a discount, but didn't deliver), which was supposed to be 2.5 hours. In reality, it was 1.5 hours of excursion (24 minutes of ascent and descent on the funicular) and 1 hour of walking around. The rest of the time was spent traveling and picking up tourists. The mountains are beautiful, the funicular is great, but if you've seen mountains before, it's a waste of time. There are no walking trails at the top, just a cafe.
I wanted to buy a fast-track pass at the airport, but Pegasus only sells it with a lounge pass ($105), and there's no separate option. Other tour operators have it.
The bottom line is that Pegasus, your obligations don't end when you've paid or on the last day of the trip; they end when the tourist crosses the border and returns home.

Avoid booking with Karela Tour at all costs. Our experience was a total disaster, from the forced sales to the aggressive staff behavior.
