Okay, we take the next size up, 146-152, and the shorts are too big and bulge out in the front. Of course, 146 is more comfortable, but the shorts are still too big. And when the shorts are too big, it's hard to swim without holding them up with your hands.

So, in the end, we took the 146-152 size, hoping that someone would eat a lot and gain a bit of weight. The idea of altering the shorts was met with disdain - my daughter said it would be shameful and embarrassing. She'd rather swim in regular shorts than in altered swimsuit.
