I'm a total kid at heart, and I love hosting fun events for my little ones. But when it comes to books, I've got to say, it's a different story. This review is all about a great kids' book that my nieces just adored!
The book is called 'No Manes - Turn Off the Lights, or The Kidnapping in the Safari Park,' and it's a detective story for preschoolers and early elementary school kids. But what I want to share first is how the idea for this book came about. It all started with a Maine Coon cat named by its owner, author Alexandra Khvorost. She was getting her cat ready for a cat show and thought about how important a mane is for a cat like that to participate in the show. And that's how the story was born! Another interesting fact is that the illustrator, Elena Shilina, lived in Africa for ten years. Talk about the stars aligning!
So, what happened? Who stole the lion Citrus's mane just before he was supposed to meet the beautiful lioness? It's a real mystery! And the main character, a famous detective named Vorn, is on the case. The book has both color and black-and-white illustrations, and they're all really original and easy to understand. It's a great story that teaches kids an important lesson: being yourself is key, no matter what. In today's world, it's more important than ever to teach kids this value.
I'm so glad to see publishers like '40 Books' creating books that are truly special for kids. It's a breath of fresh air to see publishers with a heart approach their work. I'm thrilled to have met the editor, Anastasia Bystraya, and I'm looking forward to seeing more great books from this publisher.
