My Disappointing Experience with MTS Bank Money

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was stoked to try out MTS Bank Money, but my experience was a total letdown. The cashback program sounded awesome on paper, but in reality, it's got some major limitations. You can only use your cashback rewards within the MTS network, which is a major bummer. Plus, you need a premium subscription to earn any cashback at all, which is a total letdown. The mobile app is decent, but the customer support team left a lot to be desired. My biggest issue was the way the rep interacted with me - it felt like they were more interested in chatting than actually helping me. The bank's focus on upselling and cross-selling is really annoying, too. I was expecting a lot more from this bank, but unfortunately, it just didn't deliver. I'm always on the lookout for great deals, and MTS Bank Money just didn't cut it.

I'll be honest, my first impression of MTS Bank Money wasn't great. The whole thing felt a bit off. Maybe the management team has a different vision, but it doesn't seem to be trickling down to the employees. Now, let me share my experience.
I got the card thanks to a blogger who's always raving about the bank's benefits in their articles. At first, it sounded really convincing - the cashback is good, and they have a mobile app, but some things were left out that I only found out later.
Every bank has its own perks and drawbacks, and I'm all about digging in and finding the best deals. So, I'm always on the lookout for new bank products and services.
MTS Bank Money (EXI-Bank)I want to share more about my experience with the bank's support team.
So, the representative shows up at my place and immediately starts asking me questions. 'How do you like living on the outskirts?' he asks. I'm thinking, what does this have to do with the card?
I'd had the card for a while, but I'd never had a representative visit me before. They usually just tell me about the benefits and how to use the card, but this guy was different. He seemed more interested in showing off his knowledge of my neighborhood than actually helping me with the card.
What's the point of his opinion on my home, anyway? He didn't even mention the card or any of its features. No information about the subscription or connected services was offered.
MTS Bank Money (EXI-Bank)He leaves, and I decide to call the support team, figuring they might be overwhelmed with new staff who don't really understand the product they're supposed to be promoting. I call five times. The first day, everything seems to be sorted out - I turn off the SMS notifications and leave the subscription active.
But the next day, I start calling again because I realize I have no idea what this subscription is for or what benefits it offers. I try to look it up in the app, but it just doesn't make sense. The bot responds with something, but I couldn't find any clear advantages for myself.
MTS Bank Money (EXI-Bank)Honestly, I'm confused, stressed out, and decide to double-check, so I start calling the hotline. The first girl says I don't have a card, then she steps away to verify. No more than two minutes pass, and she comes back, telling me I actually do have a card.
Then she starts explaining my debit card's credit limit, which freaks me out. Did I take out a credit card? The girl is saying something, but nothing concrete. I go to verify, she comes back, and calms me down, saying it's a debit card, but by then, I'm already on edge.
MTS Bank Money (EXI-Bank)Crazy customer service, if you ask me. After that, I ask the operator about the positive aspects of the subscription I have connected. She tells me to wait and steps away, without answering my question. I wait for a minute and hang up.
The next calls are unsuccessful, too. It takes four tries for them to tell me I actually do have a card, but they can't explain the Premium subscription to me. The only thing I understand is that you need a subscription to use the cashback, and even then, it's only for stuff I don't need.
MTS Bank Money (EXI-Bank)So, I don't find any real benefits with the card. I conclude it's only for MTS network customers. I don't have it, so it's not for me.
I have to go back to the website to disable the Premium, which was offered to me for free for two months. After that, they would've started charging 349 rubles a month.
MTS Bank Money (EXI-Bank)Pros and Cons
The app looks great, and the bot responds super fast. The categories for cashback are really well-organized. Free shipping is a nice touch. You even get a 2-month free premium subscription. And a free debit card, which is a nice bonus. Plus, there's a dedicated hotline where they answer quickly.
But, I've had some confusing interactions with the hotline. The cashback program feels pretty useless. And to make matters worse, you can only use cashback with a subscription. It's only for MTS network customers, which is kind of limiting. The whole thing feels really untargeted towards customers. The terms and conditions are super unclear. And honestly, I feel like I'm not even a priority for this bank.
There's one more thing to consider. You can invite a friend and get a bonus, but what's the point of inviting someone to sign up for a subscription that's already being offered for free?
Why would I invite someone to sign up for a subscription when it's already being given away for free? Or what if the second option isn't even relevant to me?
I'd only recommend this to MTS network customers. To be honest, I've got the feeling that this bank doesn't really care about me as a customer.
