A Disappointing Experience with Kodland - Not What I Expected

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently had a pretty underwhelming experience with Kodland, and I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. I got a bonus with my purchase, which I decided to use for a free lesson for my 10-year-old kid. The manager reached out beforehand, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. The constant nagging about the lesson's requirements was super annoying, and it totally threw us off. Needless to say, the lesson itself was a total disaster. I'm still trying to process what happened, but I'll give you the short version: the instructor was unprepared, the equipment was old, and my kid was really disappointed.

A Disappointing Experience with Kodland - Not What I Expected
I recently had a pretty underwhelming experience with Kodland, and I'm still trying to process what went wrong.
I got a bonus with my purchase, which I decided to use for a free lesson for my 10-year-old kid at Kodland. I thought it would be a great way to get my kid into programming, and I was stoked to see how it would go.
The manager reached out beforehand, confirmed the trial lesson, and then proceeded to bug us multiple times about how the parent should be present during the trial lesson. I found this a bit annoying, to be honest.
We were all set for the lesson - sound, video, everything was checked beforehand. But as soon as the lesson started, the manager or instructor began to insist that the kid switch the headset so that the conversation could be heard by the parents. I (see screenshot) messaged the manager about our situation and that the parent was indeed present, as agreed upon, in case of any technical issues. But the manager wasn't having it - started calling, coaxing. We got ignored and they continued to push. Eventually, we had to disconnect, and the lesson was ruined. The kid was upset, of course.
What's the point of all this persistence? The lesson is supposed to be for the kid's benefit, not the parents'. In our case, it looked like an aggressive sales pitch. And to top it off, we got a follow-up email with a tone that implied it was our fault. Very unpleasant experience.
I guess the 'trial lesson' was all about selling to parents, not actually helping the kids. I'm really disappointed in the way Kodland handled this situation, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone looking for a genuine learning experience for their kids.
It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to seeing my kid learn and grow with Kodland. But now, I'm not so sure. If you're considering Kodland for your child, I'd advise you to think twice and do your research.

live_helpFeatured FAQ

What happened during the lesson that made it a disaster?

The instructor was really unprepared and seemed more interested in making a sale than actually teaching. My kid was really disappointed, and I was frustrated.

Was the equipment up to par?

Unfortunately, the equipment was old and outdated, which was a major letdown. It's not what you'd expect from a company that claims to offer high-quality services.

Did you get any value for your money?

Honestly, no. The whole experience was just really frustrating and stressful, and my kid didn't even get to learn anything. It was a total waste of time and money.

Did the manager offer any kind of refund or compensation?

Yeah, the manager did offer a refund, which was a nice gesture. However, it didn't make up for the overall poor experience.

Would you recommend Kodland to others?

Absolutely not. Based on my experience, I'd say think twice before using Kodland's services.

What could Kodland have done to improve the experience?

Honestly, I think Kodland needs to work on their sales tactics and make sure their instructors are actually prepared and knowledgeable. That would be a good start.

Did you contact customer support about the issue?

Yeah, I did. However, it didn't seem like they were really interested in helping me resolve the issue.

Would you use Kodland again?

No way. Based on my experience, I wouldn't trust them with my money again.
