This review is all about the Khakhtyrsky Beach – the crown jewel of Kamchatka's beaches, and I'm about to spill all the tea on how to get there, what to expect, and why you should definitely add it to your bucket list.

Getting There: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I did my research beforehand, but surprisingly, there's not a lot of information available online about how to get to Khakhtyrsky Beach without a car. Everyone writes about the beach's breathtaking beauty, but few mention the logistics, which is exactly what I'm here to share with you.

So, we figured it out on the spot. Initially, I was planning to book a guided tour, but the prices of 15,000-20,000 rubles for 3-4 hours were way too steep. I think the locals have gotten a bit too greedy with the tourism thing, and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Another option was to take a ride-hailing service like Yandex Taxi, which would cost around 1,000 rubles for a one-way trip. However, when I asked a local taxi driver, he told me that it would be at least 2,000 rubles for a round trip, plus the fact that there's no internet on the beach to call for a ride back, which left me feeling pretty stuck.

So, we decided not to take any chances and asked a local taxi driver for help. He gave us his number, and we contacted him on the day of our trip. His wife picked us up, and we paid 3,500 rubles for the round trip (including waiting time), which I thought was a reasonable price, considering the circumstances.

The beach entrance is free, but I wouldn't be surprised if they started charging soon, given the current state of the local infrastructure.

The Road to the Beach: A Wild Ride

Khakhtyrsky Beach is one of Kamchatka's main attractions, but the road to get there is a whole different story – it's a nightmare! I now understand why taxi drivers don't want to take you there for 1,000 rubles. Who's going to fix their suspension afterwards? The road from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is still decent, but once you leave the city, it's a different story altogether.

There are some nice observation decks with great views of the city, but the minute you leave the city, it's a bumpy ride. Dust is everywhere, and drivers are taking it easy, trying not to damage their cars. There are trash dumps all around, and it's a pretty sad and depressing scene.

The Beach: Black Sand and Ocean Bliss

The beach has its own parking lot, which is great, but the sand is so fine that it's a real challenge to walk on it. Everyone leaves their cars here and walks around. There's even a bio-toilet nearby (thank goodness, that's a relief!).

I've walked along this beach, and it's so wide and long that I feel like I have it all to myself. The ocean's a force to be reckoned with – it's incredibly beautiful, with water that's almost a deep blue... Okay, I did touch it up a bit with some color correction, but trust me, it's barely noticeable.

We were lucky with the weather – it was sunny, with a temperature around +17°C. I was wearing a jacket, but it was both scorching hot from the sun and freezing cold due to the crazy wind.

But some people were brave enough to get a tan. I wouldn't have dared to do that, even on a warm day!

The beach was pretty clean, with shells and jellyfish visible. I've walked along this beach, and it's so wide and long that I feel like I have it all to myself.

People come here for a few hours or stay overnight in their campers – there are plenty of them. There's a relaxation area and a small cafe where you can grab a bite.

I was really looking forward to getting some mobile internet here, but it's just not happening. Luckily, there is a connection, so if you do decide to take a taxi here with Yandex, you might be out of luck getting a ride back. So, you're either stuck negotiating with the driver to wait or trying to hitchhike.

Verdict: A Must-Visit Destination

This beach is seriously stunning, and if you're ever on Kamchatka, you need to come here. The ocean is so peaceful – it's a real treat. If you've got the budget and the time, I'd definitely recommend booking a glamping spot here. I was thinking about it, but unfortunately, we were a bit too late with our planning – all the spots were taken. The average price per night is around 20,000 rubles.

I also loved the sunrise tour they offered – the driver brings you here to watch the sunrise, sets up a little table with snacks and champagne, and it's just so romantic, especially if the weather's good. It was something I really wanted to do, and even the price didn't deter me, but unfortunately, we didn't have time for it.

And if you do have more time, make sure to check out the viewing platforms to see the full beauty of the place from up high.

As for my rating, I was torn between 4 and 5, but in the end, I went with 5 – the ocean's not to blame for the local authorities' lack of effort in building a decent road.
