My Two Cats Survived to 20 on KetoCal - A Story of Triumph Over Kidney Stones

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been using KetoCal for months now, and I'm blown away by its effectiveness in helping my two cats, Sema and Luna, thrive on a keto diet. The unique formula has given them the peace of mind I need as a cat owner, especially with their history of kidney stones. While the taste isn't great, it's a small price to pay for the benefits. I highly recommend KetoCal for any cat owner looking for a reliable solution to support their pet's health.

I've had cats my whole life, and KetoCal has been sitting in my fridge for years. To be honest, I never got around to using it because the taste wasn't great, and my cats seemed fine. That all changed when Sema, my 15-year-old cat, had a kidney stone scare. I'll get to that in a minute, but first, let's talk about the packaging.
Packaging
The box contains three bottles of KetoCal - a brown liquid with almost no smell. It's a pretty straightforward setup.
Inside the box, you'll find an instruction manual and a dropper for dispensing the liquid one drop at a time.
Ingredients are all plant-based, as far as I can tell.
The bottles are sealed with an aluminum cap, which has a little tab for removing it. Unfortunately, I usually end up breaking the tab instead of pulling it off cleanly. If you do manage to get it off, be careful not to cut yourself. I find that using a pair of small pliers, like tiny needle-nose pliers, really helps. You can use them to carefully pry off the cap, or you can use them to get a grip on the tab itself.
I removed the rubber stopper and attached the dropper. Now we're good to go!

Using KetoCal. Part 1: Sema's Story
Sema came to us at 11 years old, and before that, he was always fed Felix in pouches - canned food with jelly. He rarely ate dry food or meat, so we continued feeding him the same way. If he was sick, it wasn't noticeable.
When Sema was 15, he had a seizure. At first, we thought his legs were just sore from a trip, but then he got really bad. He'd lie down, start moving, and let out a loud cry. I didn't want to take him to the vet in that state; he'd be miserable on the way. That's when KetoCal came into the picture.
xa0
I'd put the medication on pieces of meat, and Sema would eat them. Despite being sick, his appetite didn't disappear. He was in that state for two days, then he started feeling better, but KetoCal was a permanent fixture in his life from then on.
For the first few months after the seizure, I gave him the medication every month. Later, it was every three months.
xa0
I'd put the medication on pieces of meat, making 7 clicks on the dropper (according to the instructions). The opened vial had to be used within a week, but we'd finish the whole thing in a week.
xa0
Sema ate the KetoCal-treated meat without hesitation, with appetite, even with enthusiasm. I think the taste isn't bad - maybe even pleasant.
Sema already goes to the litter box frequently, and after KetoCal, even more so - about 5-6 times a day.
xa0
I'll never forget the day my cat, Sema, was 19 years old and had another seizure. This time, it was different. He was lying next to my monitor, suddenly jumped up, and started convulsing like he was having an epileptic fit.
My husband quickly administered an injection of heparin, and Sema calmed down. After the seizure, he had an intense hunger for meat. He ate like a starving animal, and then spent several hours lying on the kitchen floor, purring.
xa0
This pattern repeated itself in the following months - every 6 months, then every 3 months, and finally, every month. After his last seizure, Sema passed away at the age of 20.

Using the product: Part 2 – Bagira's Story
Bagira's first seizure occurred when she was 12 years old. She had been eating dry food her whole life, occasionally having some canned food, and rarely meat. When she came to us, she was accustomed to dry food and refused to eat anything else, sticking to Perfect Fit and occasionally Royal Canin.
Over the next 6 months, I took her to the vet for seizures, and she contracted calcivirus, likely from a neighbor's cat. On that occasion, they ran a blood test, which showed that her kidneys and liver were functioning normally. I'm still not sure - did the kidney stones develop quickly, or was the test just not sensitive enough?
It started like Sema's episodes - weakness in her legs. And she was constantly chasing her tail. Then the severe pain began, and she stopped eating, sitting dejectedly by the cupboard. Occasionally, she'd go out, meow loudly, and then retreat back inside. This lasted for about a week. Giving her KetoCal was a challenge - she refused to drink it willingly. I had to use a syringe to administer it to her. The long nozzle made it easy to feed her, as long as she didn't resist.
But when the pain subsided, Bagira regained her strength and began to resist. She wouldn't eat meat, and taking KetoCal was a problem. I started mixing it with dry food, and she'd eat it. To date, it's been almost a year since the seizure. Every 3 months, I administer KetoCal to her. And as soon as she starts chasing her tail again, I give her vitamin B1 from an ampule. My husband read that this is a sign of neuropathy - she doesn't feel her tail or legs.
Bagira rarely went to the bathroom, about once a day, sometimes twice. After taking KetoCal, even on days when she didn't take it, she'd go 3-4 times a day.
We've been living this way ever since. No more seizures.
The Verdict. I've found that KetoCal really delivers when it comes to managing my cat's MCB. The key is to stick to the schedule and use it proactively for prevention. Plus, it's a great value for the price. I've been impressed with the results, and I think every cat owner should consider it as an option.
