Dubai Chocolate Disappointment: A Review of Ulker's Pistachio Filling and Kataifi Pastry

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was super stoked to finally try Dubai chocolate, but my experience with Ulker's Pistachio Filling and Kataifi Pastry was a total letdown. The hype surrounding this chocolate had me waiting for ages, but it wasn't worth the wait. The pastry was a nice touch, adding some much-needed texture to the chocolate, but it couldn't save the bland, uninspired chocolate filling. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, but for me, it was a value for money disappointment. The packaging was visually appealing, making it a nice addition to any gift basket, but that's about where it ended. I'm still waiting for a decent Dubai chocolate to hit the market.

I've been dying to try Dubai chocolate for ages, but my practical side kept me from ordering it from abroad. I mean, who knows what I'd get? Plus, it's got a low rating and it's basically a plane ticket's worth of money. I just waited it out, thinking the hype would die down and prices would drop.
Dubai chocolate Ulker reviews
I sometimes feel like Belarus is one big village – everything takes its sweet time getting to us. By the time the Russian crowd was raving about Lays sparkling chips, we still hadn't seen them in stores here. Same story with Dubai chocolate – when it was already flying off the shelves in Russia, we couldn't even find it in the biggest stores in our major cities. But then, out of nowhere, I stumbled upon it in Euro Opt (Brest)!

Design. The chocolate's small, the wrapper's got a nice green theme, and on the front, there's a picture of the chocolate sliced open – it all looks super appetizing and long-awaited!!
We were on a road trip with the kids, and as you can imagine, they asked for a snack. We decided to indulge in a chocolate treat from Dubai. The heat, dust, and exhaustion made me less than excited to try it, especially since it had melted all over the place. The chocolate was a mess, with broken pieces and sticky fingers. The first impression wasn't great, but I did manage to catch a glimpse of the crunchy filling.
But things improved once we got home the next day and could enjoy it properly.
Ingredients:
Sugar, dried skimmed milk, cocoa butter, cocoa, hazelnut, rapeseed oil, palm oil, whey powder, skimmed milk powder, maltodextrin, emulsifier soya lecithin, ammonium phosphatide, E476, salt, flavourings, cocoa powder, spirulina extract.
What makes Dubai chocolate special? It's the famous thin, toasted kataifi pastry and hazelnut praline filling, all wrapped in milk chocolate.

Calories - 535 per 100g. I think it's safe to say this is a calorie bomb! It's got more calories than your average milk chocolate.
What does Ulker taste like reviews
I was really impressed with the thickness of the chocolate wafer - it's clear they've packed a lot of that delicious filling inside! The top of each piece has the Ulker logo, and the shapes are pretty unique.
At room temperature, where I stored the chocolate, the texture makes it easy to snap into pieces without that loud crackle and crunch you see in videos online. Instead, the chocolate feels soft and pliable, and the milk chocolate sometimes even separates from the filling.

The aroma. Unfortunately, it didn't impress me - the chocolate smells more like a candy coating than real milk chocolate. I'm not sure why I get that impression. There's no hint of the exotic spices, pistachios, or nuts you'd expect from a Middle Eastern treat.
The filling is definitely there, but it's not what I expected. I was hoping for a more pronounced herbal texture, like the kadaif pastry inside looks like worms or grass! But here, it's just a soft, green paste with an uneven texture.

Flavor. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect. And I hadn't tried the original version for an arm and a leg, but I really wanted something unique, something I'd never tried before.

I'd read a description and comparison of the Dubai chocolate filling with halva somewhere. There's no similarity here at all. The chocolate is very sweet, not chocolatey, but just some other kind of sweetness.
It's nice to crunch on the kadaif pastry in the filling, I'd say that's the most unusual part. It reminds me of finely chopped nuts, but the taste isn't nutty, and not really pistachio-like. There's no pronounced pistachio aftertaste, just a sweet mass with a pleasant crunch.
But the flavor is still unusual, I've never had anything like it. I noticed that something in the chocolate gives me a light coffee note, I don't know what component does that for me.
Yes, it's relatively tasty, but there wasn't that explosive effect. There's a lot of flavor, but you can buy something just as tasty for less than 10 rubles per 93 grams. The same milk chocolate from Kommunar, chocolate candies, Rafaello, and many of its analogues, but even the expensive sweets will be cheaper than the Dubai chocolate Ulker, which isn't even the original.
I'm really craving to try Dubai chocolate from other manufacturers now, to compare it properly. Is this what Dubai chocolate is like, or is it just this specific one? I was unsure whether to give it 3 or 4. But we're not just evaluating taste, we're also considering price vs. quality, and most importantly, the feelings you get from buying it! So, the feeling just isn't great, to be honest. I won't be buying Ulker chocolate again, but I'll try Dubai chocolate from other brands if I have the chance.
That's it for now, thanks for reading!
Final ThoughtsI've gotta say, after using the X500 Pro for a week, I'm really impressed with its value for money. The build quality is top-notch, and the battery life has been a pleasant surprise.
The X500 Pro is definitely a great option for anyone looking for a reliable and feature-packed device. I'd highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new X500 Pro.
