My Honest Take on the Fox-Cub Costume: Hits and Misses
I've been on a mission to find the perfect winter wardrobe for my kid, and I've been raving about cozy pieces that keep them warm and bring joy during outdoor walks. Now, I want to share my experience with the TM 'Fox-Cub' outfit for girls.
I bought this costume back in spring 2018, but I'm only writing this review now after we've worn it through the entire spring and first few months of autumn. I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant at first - the dark color was a concern, and I thought about returning it, but the weather was being uncooperative, and I needed to dress my daughter up ASAP, so I left it on.
The TM 'Fox-Cub' costume consists of a jacket and a half-combination (more like pants), the jacket has floral patterns, while the pants are plain, from the Flowers series. The color palette for the costumes is limited: blue, dark lilac, and pink. The costume is lightweight, soft, and pretty well-made.
The material for the jacket and pants - membra YSD-XFC-DewspoTeflon breathable 3K/3K. One of the positives is that it doesn't get wet in the rain or snow, and stains come off easily with a damp cloth.
However, I'm not so sure about the material being breathable and wicking moisture. If I put the jacket on at +6, it gets my daughter's back all wet, and the inside of the jacket is damp. On the other hand, if I dress her up at -3 to -4, the jacket gets cold and the inside and outside get chilly. I guess the optimal temperature range is 0 to +1.
The lining of the jacket is cotton, and the insulator used is 'Fiber plastic' 150g/m2. I was bummed to find that after a month, the insulation started to poke through the lining and form these annoying wrinkles.
The jacket and half-combination have these tiny reflective strips on the front and back, which is a nice touch.
I really liked the model of the jacket and how it fits my kid - that's why I ended up keeping the costume, actually.
The jacket's style reminds me of a parka. It's long and covers everything when my kid's on the slide or swings. The waist has an elastic strap that cinches it in and makes it look more streamlined. It's not too bulky and looks great with pants, jeans, or a skirt.
The lower part of the jacket is missing a drawstring.
The sleeves have a wide rubber cuff that fits snugly around my kid's wrist, keeping water and snow out.
I also love the high collar on this jacket - it's sturdy enough to wear without a scarf. What I really like about this jacket is the deep, removable hood with a rubber grip at the back. It stays put on my kid's head and doesn't fall over their eyes. Since we wear the insulated part under a lighter hat, it's perfect.
The zipper runs the entire length, and my kid has no problem with it. For added convenience, there are two buttoned pockets on the sides.
The combo set has wide elastic straps that adjust to your height. The pants are straight, and there's a fold at the knee for freedom of movement.
However, the seat of the combo set is super uncomfortable - I was thinking that when I bought it, too narrow in the waist and thighs, it's only suitable for skinny kids or those who are really underweight. We don't have any extra space in our waist now, so we're thinking of saving it for autumn, but come spring, the pants will be too small. When I tried it on in the store, it seemed fine, with enough room on the sides, but in a larger size, the pants were huge in length and width. But after wearing it, we realized it's not our model - it's uncomfortable for the kid, presses on the waist and crotch.
In short, I've been trying to find the perfect upper body for my kid for almost 5 years now, and it looks like I still haven't got it right. The Fox-Cub TM set is okay, I guess, but the pants are definitely not our style - they're too narrow and uncomfortable. The jacket is comfortable to wear, but I'm not sure when to wear it - it's too hot in it during warm weather and too cold in it during cooler weather.
I shouldn't have rushed into buying it.
It's not all bad news, though - the jacket has some redeeming qualities. The reflective strips and adjustable straps are nice touches that make it a decent choice for a winter costume.
So, if you're in the market for a winter costume for your kid, I'd recommend taking a closer look at this one. But be sure to check the sizing and material before making a purchase, as it may not be the best fit for everyone.
