A Game-Changing Formula That Helped My Little One Gain Weight - My Honest Review as a New Mom

summarizeEditor's Summary

As a new mom, there's nothing more stressful than worrying about your baby's health. I was in that exact situation when my little one arrived early. The pediatrician recommended the Bellact PRÉ 0-12 dry milk formula for premature babies, and I'm so glad I listened. Not only was it a steal compared to similar imported formulas, but it also helped my baby gain weight and thrive. I've been using it for weeks now, and the results are nothing short of amazing. The packaging is cleverly designed, and the formula itself is top-notch. I'm not gonna lie, it's been a total game-changer for us. One thing that really stood out to me was the value for money - it's significantly cheaper than other formulas on the market, yet it delivers on its promises. My baby loves the taste, and we've noticed a significant reduction in spit-up since switching to Bellact. The formula is packed in a sealed pouch that keeps everything fresh, and the packaging is designed to prevent spills and keep debris out. It's also super easy to prepare, even for a sleep-deprived new mom like me. I've had to reorder the formula a few times, which can be inconvenient, but it's a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with knowing my baby is getting the nutrients they need.

A Game-Changing Formula That Helped My Little One Gain Weight - My Honest Review as a New Mom
I'll never forget the day my little one decided to arrive early. In the hospital, they used local baby formulas from Bellact, but I ended up buying it myself. My baby was underweight, so they started feeding them Bellact PRÉ 0-12 dry milk formula for premature babies right away.
Compared to similar imported formulas, it's a steal. I was really lucky my baby didn't have any allergies to it. I can only imagine how much I'd have spent on something like Nan if I had to buy it.
The packaging is cleverly designed. You can seal the box back up using the cardboard flap, which keeps the contents safe, prevents them from spilling out, and keeps debris from getting in.
The formula itself is packed in a sealed pouch made of thick aluminum foil. You do need scissors to open it, but the manufacturer hasn't provided any special tools for this. I'm not deducting points for that, though - I'm more concerned with my baby's happiness, and I'm willing to put up with a bit of hassle if it means they get the best nutrition.
The cardboard box comes with a measuring spoon made of hard white plastic, which is super convenient - you don't have to worry about what to use to measure the right amount of formula. The handle is long, so it's easy for me to scoop out the formula from the bottom of the packet.
I've found it's super convenient to cut the foil packaging in half once it's empty, to make it easier to store.
Weight - 400g.
Smell. It smells just like any other milk powder - a bit sweet with a creamy, milky undertone. And I'm saying this because I bought their dry mix for moms before, and it had this really distinct smell that not everyone would appreciate.
Consistency. The powder is a nice white color with a slight yellowish tint. It's finely ground, similar to dry milk.
When you press the powder with a spoon, you can hear a slight crunch. Plus, it gets sticky if you touch it with wet hands. Over time, it clings to the measuring spoon. But I'm not surprised, given that most of the composition is made up of protein.
After shaking, the reconstituted mix gets a bit bubbly. Unfortunately, the bubbles don't disappear during feeding.
Formula. One thing I really appreciated was the detailed information on the packaging about the composition of the mix.
The formula lists not only all the ingredients but also the vitamin and mineral composition, their quantitative content in 100 grams of dry mix and in 100 milliliters of reconstituted (prepared) product, as well as the calorie content of the product.
Having such detailed information on the packaging of Bellact's formula really helped me in the future to choose the right mix for further baby feeding.
I think this level of detail is especially important for mothers, as it allows them to determine the best nutrition for their babies.
I was surprised to see that palm oil, which is often added to baby food, is missing from this product.
When I compared the ingredients of baby formulas used for full-term babies, like Bellact Immunis, to the Bellact PRÉ 0-12 dry milk formula for preterm babies, I noticed that it contains more proteins and fats, and it's more calorie-dense. This product has a higher nutritional value.
Preparation. Unlike most formulas sold back in the day, like Malysh and Malyutka, Bellact formulas don't require boiling. You simply need to add the right amount to hot water (around 40-50°C) and mix it thoroughly.
I did just that. I poured the dry mix into a bottle with hot water that had cooled down to the right temperature, using 1 measuring spoon for every 30ml of water, just as the manufacturer recommends.
I know some parents try to save money by diluting the formula, but I didn't do that. I was concerned about the calorie count, so I followed the manufacturer's instructions to the letter.
To measure the right amount accurately, I scooped the powder directly from the packet using a measuring spoon, pressing it against the sides of the packaging to get rid of any excess. Then, I poured it into the bottle with the water.
Thankfully, most manufacturers now make bottles with wide necks, making it easy to pour the powder in.
I wanted to mention something that's really important. When you're reconstituting the formula, you need to mix it super thoroughly to make sure the powder dissolves evenly and there aren't any clumps. I take at least 5 minutes to do this. One time, my husband didn't mix it well enough, and when I went to feed our baby, I found big clumps in the bottle. Not only does this affect the nutritional value of the formula, but it's also a waste since the baby won't eat it. Honestly, I've struggled to get the powder to fully dissolve too, even after trying my best. I've always ended up with tiny clumps. I'm not sure what the issue is.
I've been wondering why it's so crucial to maintain the right water temperature when mixing the formula. I assume it's to preserve all the nutrients and goodness. Many vitamins and beneficial compounds can get destroyed in hot water, and the protein can also coagulate.
Feeding Time. This is the most critical part for any new mom.
The primary purpose of this product is to help me gain weight quickly, and the Bellact PRE 0-12 dry milk mixture for feeding preterm infants delivers. Although my baby's height at birth was pretty normal, their weight was a concern. They were underweight. I think it was because during pregnancy, I couldn't eat as much as I would have liked. Not because I didn't have an appetite - I actually had a decent appetite. It's just that my stomach wasn't big enough to hold much food. I've always eaten small portions, and during pregnancy, I wasn't able to increase my food intake. But I digress. I just want to give those reading my review a clear understanding of the circumstances under which I fed my baby this mixture.
Over the first two weeks of life, my baby gained 210 grams. And that's despite the fact that newborns usually lose weight in the first day. That's what my pediatrician told me. I fed my baby this mixture for about a month and a half, and they quickly started gaining weight.
No allergic reactions. I'm happy to report that this formula didn't cause any allergic reactions for us. However, I do want to mention that everyone's different - my friend's baby had a terrible reaction to Bellact PRE due to the cow's milk in the formula. I also noticed that our little one's skin on their forehead would get pretty flaky, but when I asked our pediatrician about it, they said it could be related to the formula. We didn't get any rashes or hives, and that was a huge relief for me.
Constipation. One of the side effects of feeding our baby Bellact PRE 0-12, a dry milk specialized formula for preterm babies was constipation. At first, it wasn't too bad, and our little one would still go to the bathroom. But as time went on, the constipation got worse, and our baby started to experience some pretty painful symptoms. I managed to resolve this issue by giving our baby Bellact AR once a day.
Colic. Many moms who formula-feed their babies deal with colic, and we were no exception. We started experiencing colic issues at around three weeks, and let me tell you, it was a real challenge. Gas would build up, and our baby would be in a lot of pain.
Luckily, no spitting up. Spitting up is another nightmare that keeps young parents and their little ones up at night. But we dodged that bullet. My baby spit up very rarely. I made sure not to overfeed him and kept him upright after feedings, and didn't pick him up too often. That might have played a role, but even so, I think the Bellact PRE formula was gentle on his tummy.
A little stats for you. On average, one pack of formula lasted me four days.
The verdict. I really liked the Bellact PRE 0-12 Dry Milk Specialist Formula for Premature Babies. It had its pros and cons.
I won't dock points for the gas and constipation, since gas is a common issue for most babies, regardless of the formula, and constipation is a problem for all formula-fed babies – we eventually sorted that out. All in all, the formula turned out to be pretty good and helped my little one get stronger and gain some weight.
I'd definitely recommend it.
