A Cucumber Variety That Fizzled

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was stoked to try the Boez F1 cucumber variety from Ural'skij dachnik, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The seeds germinated super slow, and the resulting plants didn't match the picture on the packet. I was hoping for a reliable summer crop, but this variety was a total letdown. The price wasn't bad, but the lack of performance makes it hard to recommend. I'll stick to my tried-and-true favorites from now on.

You can't have a summer house without cucumbers, right? They're one of the easiest and most delicious veggies to grow from your garden - unless you count the zucchini, of course!
But when it comes to growing cucumbers, the key is finding a good variety and decent seeds.
In this review, we're testing out semena ogurcev "Boez", F1 "Ural'skij dachnik".
I have to admit, both the variety and the producer are new to me.
I've never seen or planted anything like it before, even when I've traveled to the Urals and seen what local gardeners grow.
semena ogurcev "Boez", F1 "Ural'skij dachnik"I bought these cucumbers on a whim, and it was only natural to want to try something new.
According to the info, this Boez F1 variety takes 46-53 days from germination to harvest. The plant is strong and has female flower type. The fruits are genetically free of bitterness, cylindrical in shape, and weigh 50-90 grams, measuring 6-9 cm in length.
The seeds themselves cost 40 rubles at a regular seed store.
semena ogurcev "Boez", F1 "Ural'skij dachnik"The packaging has all the usual information on how to plant and care for the cucumbers. As for the seed treatment, it's a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, it protects the seeds from diseases and promotes growth. On the other hand, it's better without the stimulants. And, of course, it affects the price of the seeds.
Seeds of Cucumber "Boets", F1 "Uralskii daachnik" The germination rate is around 80%. A lot of cucumbers did germinate, but there were gaps in the bed. By the time they reached the growth stage, it was clear that we shouldn't expect a bountiful harvest. Maybe it was the summer weather (either the heat, the rain, or the drought) or maybe it's just the variety.
Seeds of Cucumber "Boets", F1 "Uralskii daachnik" The cucumbers themselves looked nothing like the picture on the front of the pack - more like the ones on the back. And to be honest, there weren't many of them either.
So, to top it all off, the price wasn't great either. It's a pretty empty pack, if you ask me.
I ended up pickling some of the harvest because better options for salads grew in their place.
The best specimens went into pickling, but even they aren't the best It's only logical to process these cucumbers in a thermos, and it's not because I'm sad to throw them away.
I was pretty disappointed with the yield from this pack.
So, I'd give this one 3 stars, but I guess the cucumbers are edible and I'd recommend them if you need something to munch on.
What I liked:
The seeds had a decent germination rate of around 80% The cucumbers were edible, even if they weren't the best
What I didn't like:
The yield was pretty disappointing, even for a beginner gardener The cucumbers looked nothing like the picture on the front of the pack The price wasn't great, especially considering the empty pack
I'd say that this variety of cucumber just didn't live up to my expectations. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's the variety itself. Either way, I'd recommend trying something else if you're looking for a bountiful harvest.
But hey, at least the cucumbers are edible, right?
So, if you need something to munch on, these cucumbers might do the trick. Just don't expect a lot of them, and be prepared for some disappointment.
That's my two cents on the semena ogurcev "Boez", F1 "Ural'skij dachnik" variety. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.
