Hello everyone!
As we're approaching the New Year, I'm getting into the holiday spirit by preparing for the big night.
One of my favorite things to do is make handmade ornaments for the tree, and I've got a small collection of glass ornaments going already.
But let's be real, there's nothing quite like making something with your own two hands.
I've made ornaments out of all sorts of materials – fabric, wood, plastic. There's something special about creating something that's truly one-of-a-kind, made with love.
This year, I've fallen head over heels for beaded ornaments. I used to dabble in beading from time to time, but this year I'm really getting into it.
It's a bit of a labor-intensive process, but I find it really rewarding. Not too long ago, I made a beaded Matryoshka doll and I was really happy with how it turned out – flaws and all!
Of course, I couldn't just stop at one – I had to make a Snow Maiden to go along with it.

I have to admit, I hadn't heard of "Rainbow Beads" until this year.
It was when I started embroidering a toy called "Grandfather Frost" that I stumbled upon them.
"Rainbow Beads" offers a wide range of different Matryoshka dolls that are embroidered with beads and transformed into real Matryoshka dolls. It looks interesting and very much in the spirit of Russian culture, since the Matryoshka doll is one of Russia's symbols.

The Snow Maiden looks very cute and charming.
To be honest, the Snow Maiden is a special character for me, so I couldn't pass up on a story like this.
I love how this Snow Maiden set from Raduga Biser looks like it'll turn out – it's going to be a beautiful and interesting matryoshka doll.
I'm also a fan of the color scheme in this design. They've put together the main winter colors with some festive, holiday touches. My only quibble is the choice of poinsettia as an accessory on the Snow Maiden's outfit – it's not exactly a Russian flower. But overall, the Snow Maiden looks really vibrant.
Of course, she'll make a great pair with Ded Moroz, even though his outfit is red and hers is blue.

Process, end result
I love the process of beading; it's almost meditative for me.
Using a beading organizer makes the process so much easier, allowing me to quickly grab the right bead without slowing down.
I always bead from the top to prevent accidental damage to the beads.
The most challenging part for me was assembling the matryoshka.
But first, you need to bead the fabric pieces together.
Now, I had a bit of trouble here. Since I work with beads in the evening under artificial lighting, some of the icon colors on the pattern looked way too similar to me. In the end, I got the shades mixed up and sewed the wrong beads in some places. I'm not sure what happened. Either I'm just being super careless or the lighting really threw me off, or maybe the icons on the pattern really do look similar.
To be honest, my Snow Maiden turned out differently from the original design. But I wasn't too fussed, because she still looks beautiful, even if she's not like the cover.
On the second side, I was way more careful.
Looking at the materials, I'd say there's a good amount of each bead color included in the pack.

After sewing the beads to the two bases, you need to cut them out along the contours.
The next step is to shape the two parts using cardboard and interfacing.
I'll be the first to admit, assembling the Matryoshka doll was a real challenge the first time around. It took me a few tries to get it right, but this time with Snegurochka, the process was a breeze. I actually enjoyed it, which is a big plus in my book.
And check out the finished product – isn't she a beauty?
The texture of the beaded fabric is really nice – it's so tactile.
And despite my mishap with the beading, the result is still pretty stunning. I'm really happy with how Snegurochka turned out.
She's a sweetheart, with a lovely face and a stylish outfit.
The blue, white, and red combo looks super cool and vibrant.
This toy is great from every angle.
I went with a silver tassel for the hanger, just like Grandma's.

The Matryoshka dolls turned out to be super plushy, thanks to the polyester filling. I'm really into this type of handmade Christmas decoration. First, it looks great. Second, it's a labor of love.
I'm really happy with the Snow Maiden craft kit. The components are top-notch and there are loads of them – I've got a stash of threads and beads that'll last me a while.
My only gripe is that the keys were a bit too similar for my liking – I ended up getting them mixed up. But that's probably on me, not the kit. The beading process is pretty time-consuming and fiddly, and with two sides to work on, it's a lot of work. You'll need some patience and skill to get it together.
But the end result is well worth it – my Snow Maiden is a beauty, and I'm just as proud of her as I am of my Christmas decorations.
