I visited the Bangkok Oceanarium, located in the basement of the Siam Paragon shopping mall, and it blew me away. Not only is it the largest oceanarium in Southeast Asia, but it's also ridiculously fascinating.
As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was transported to an underwater world. There were all sorts of bizarre fish - from tiny ones to massive, intimidating creatures with razor-sharp teeth.
The massive aquarium is home to a glass tunnel that lets you walk through while sharks and rays swim above and beside you - it's seriously hypnotic.
For an extra fee, you can even descend into a smaller aquarium and walk among these giants - like this girl.
There's also a Jurassic period zone where you'll see pterodactyls flying overhead, dinosaurs roaming the land, and massive fish swimming in the ocean.
The oceanarium even hosts educational sessions for local school kids.
And let's not forget the numerous aquariums, ranging from tiny ones inside microwaves and washing machines to giant ones that'll leave you awestruck.
One of the highlights of my visit was seeing the massive coral reefs, stacked on top of each other in the aquariums. There were so many different types of coral, sea fans, and unusual plants living on the ocean floor. It was like snorkeling without getting wet!
And the fish! Oh man, the fish were incredible. I saw sea turtles, stingrays of all sizes, and even some moray eels poking their heads out of the sand on the ocean floor.
One of the coolest things was getting to ride a dolphin on a machine, or sitting on an octopus's tentacles, or even petting the penguins. It was like being in a whole different world! I had a blast dancing with them
If you're feeling adventurous, you can even imagine yourself as the hero of a movie like Jaws.
Or maybe even Treasure Island. You can even dig through pirate chests full of treasure,
unless these same pirates send you on a wild goose chase in a barrel.
And at the Jurassic Park, there are giant idols - stone statues with noses bigger than my head.
A trip to the Bangkok aquarium is a real underwater adventure that I highly recommend to anyone visiting Thailand. It takes around two hours to get to the aquarium from Pattaya, but it's worth visiting in person to make the most of your time.
