Bakhroma, St. Petersburg

I've been to Bakhroma in St. Petersburg a few times, and let me tell you, it's a total hidden gem. The value for money is unbeatable - the food is always on point, and the atmosphere is super cozy. I've had some of the best meals here, and the prices are always reasonable. If you're looking for a great spot to grab a bite, Bakhroma is definitely worth checking out.

Bahroma's Lost Its Flavor: What's Changed in 2024?

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been a Bahroma fan for years, but my recent visit to the Prospekt Bolshevikov location left me feeling underwhelmed. The restaurant's once-stellar Eastern cuisine has lost its flavor, and the service has taken a hit. Prices have gone up, but the value for money just isn't there. I'm not sure what's changed, but it's time for Bahroma to get back to its roots. Here's what I experienced during my visit: generous portions, but the quality has suffered; the interior is still a sight to behold, with impressive Eastern decor; the staff is still friendly, but the service has been slow; you can still find deals on food, but the value for money isn't there; the restaurant has a kids' area, which is a great perk for families; and the menu is still diverse, with plenty of options.

Hello there!
Bahroma's a well-known restaurant chain in St. Petersburg, specializing in Eastern cuisine. The first restaurant opened its doors back in 2002, and now there are 12 locations in the city.
Luckily, over the years, these restaurants have built a good reputation in the city. Locals know this chain well and appreciate the generous portions and frequent promotions – you can often find great deals on food here.
Bahroma reviews 2024 I've been to Bahroma several times a year. In total, I've visited three locations in the city, but this review is about my recent visit to the restaurant on Prospekt Bolshevikov, 7, in one of the city's residential districts. To find out what's changed at Bahroma in 2024, how prices have increased, and whether the food is still great, keep reading.
General Info:
Name: Bahroma
Cuisine: European, Grill, Middle Eastern, Uzbek, Georgian
Date of opening of the first restaurant in St. Petersburg: 2002.
Average check as of June 2024 is 2000 rubles.
You can find the official website of the 'Bakhroma' restaurant chain here, where you can check out the menu with the latest prices and catch up on current promotions.
One of the best things about 'Bakhroma' restaurants is that you can order food for delivery.
Hours of operation:
Sunday to Monday: 12:00 to 01:00
Locations:
'Bakhroma' restaurants are scattered all over St. Petersburg. You can find them in every district, mainly in residential areas. I visited three of them, and to be honest, it's hard for me to pick a favorite – I think their cooking technology is the same everywhere, and if I noticed any drawbacks in one place, they'd be the same in the others.
'Bakhroma' restaurants on the map:
Bakhroma restaurant reviews 2024I'll repeat the addresses of the restaurants in text form:
• 17, Balkanskaya Street
• 7, Bolsheviks Avenue
• 30, Big Prospekt of PS
• 35, Doblyost Street
• 65, Zanievsky Avenue
• 4, Zvezdny Street, building 2
• 118C, Obvodny Canal Embankment
• Prosveshcheniya pr., 48
• Savushkina ul., 141A
• Sizova pr., 9
• Slavy pr., 33
Exterior and Interior:
I've noticed that most Bahroma restaurants are located in these small shopping centers.
The massive exterior sign with the name BAHROMA is the same for all restaurants in the chain. Typically, there's a TOKI-CİTY right next door since the restaurant and bar chain is owned by the same people.
Bahroma Restaurant Reviews 2024
The parking lot is right outside the shopping center, but it's super small, and I've never managed to find a spot.
Bahroma Restaurant Reviews 2024
The restaurant is located on the second floor of the shopping center. It was easy to find – there were several signs pointing the way.
Bakhroma Restaurant Reviews 2024Walking in, the entrance to the restaurant is pretty unassuming, but as soon as you step inside, you can tell the interior designers have put their heart and soul into it. I've been to a bunch of Bakhroma locations, and each one has its own unique style – it's not like they're just copying and pasting the same design everywhere. The bold choices they've made, mixing different interior styles, really transport you to a cozy Eastern world and create a super authentic atmosphere:

Bakhroma Restaurant Reviews 2024
The restaurant we visited recently had three separate rooms, each with its own unique interior. The banquet hall was right by the entrance and was decked out in a classic Eastern style, complete with opulence, bright colors, heavy curtains, and massive chandeliers. The only thing that's a bit of a letdown is the exposed pipes on the ceiling – it's not exactly the most elegant solution, but hey, it's a common thing in a lot of St. Petersburg restaurants:
Bakhroma Restaurant Reviews 2024
The second lounge area is designed for smaller companies and has a modern LOFT-style decor. Don't expect any Eastern vibes here, but the cozy sofas and small tables actually enhance the overall atmosphere and make you feel relaxed:
Bakhroma Restaurant Reviews 2024 Bakhroma Restaurant Reviews 2024
The third lounge area is where they host live concerts in the evenings, and it's just as cozy:
Bakhroma Restaurant Reviews 2024
Bakhroma Restaurant Reviews 2024The restrooms in the restaurant are immaculately designed and spotlessly clean – I've never seen anything like it in St. Petersburg.
Bahroma Restaurant Reviews 2024I've gotta say, the interiors in Bahroma are top-notch, and I think everyone who's ever been to one of their restaurants would agree. What I love is that each location has a vibe that's perfect for whatever occasion or group you're with. But, let's be real, the interiors are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what keeps customers coming back. Unfortunately, Bahroma has taken a turn for the worse in other areas.
Bahroma Restaurant Deals:
I've been going to Bahroma for years, and their deals have always been consistent. Every Tuesday, they'd offer 50% off all orders for women, which was a great way to get a group of girls together. But, now they've reduced the discount to 30%, and to make matters worse, the staff doesn't even bother reminding you about the deal or applying it to your bill.
We experienced this firsthand when we were charged the full price. We had to ask them to re-calculate the bill and apply the discount:
Bahroma Restaurant Reviews 2024Now, the only way to get deals is if you're a cardholder. And, if you thought the deals were always available, think again. They're only valid for a certain period, according to their website.
So, if you're planning to visit Bahroma, be sure to check their website for the current deals. They're only available on specific days, and you'll need to be a cardholder to take advantage of them.
• They've got a pretty sweet deal going on for new customers - 500 rubles off your first order!
• Every weekday, you can get a 50% cashback on lunch orders until 5 pm.
• They'll hook you up with 10% off on your birthday and your personal celebration day.
• On Mondays, it's men's day - 30% off all food and drinks.
• On Tuesdays, it's ladies' day - 30% off all food and drinks.
• On Thursdays, you can get 50% off all their grilling menu.
I have to say, I was really stoked to find out about these deals, but unfortunately, the waitstaff didn't mention them to me, so I only found out about them on their website. I'm sure if they'd promoted them, way more people would've taken advantage of them.
• When you order their 59-ruble orange cake, you're actually supporting the 'Natacha' charity, which helps kids with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Menu and Our Orders in Bahroma:
The menu at Bahroma is the same across all their locations, and it's super well-designed - you can easily see what the dishes look like and what's in them. One thing that's a bit annoying is that they don't list the serving weights, so I'm guessing the hot meals, soups, and salads were around 300 grams each.
I've also noticed that they're constantly adding new dishes to the menu, and they've got a great selection of breakfast items, cold snacks, and hot meals.
Bahroma restaurant reviews 2024
Restaurant Bahroma Reviews 2024I was a bit disappointed with the kids' menu - the selection of dishes wasn't huge.
There was no sign of Asian cuisine, which is what Tokyo-CITY next door specializes in. But I was pleasantly surprised to find some Serbian dishes on the menu, plus a great variety of hot salads.
I won't go into the full menu here, as you can find all the details, including prices, on the official website or by scanning the QR code. Instead, I'll just show you the dishes we ordered this time so you can see how they match up with the pictures.
Restaurant Bahroma Reviews 2024
Plov is a classic Uzbek dish that should be done justice by this restaurant. We ordered the plov po-ferganski for 590 rubles with beef, barberries, and carrots.
Restaurant Bahroma Reviews 2024
Restaurant Bahroma reviews 2024I was really disappointed with the quality of the beef - it was tough and had a huge chunk of fat. And don't even get me started on the carrots in the pilaf - it's clear they were skimping on those. When making pilaf, you usually want to use carrots in equal proportions to the meat and rice, but here it was barely noticeable. I get that everyone makes pilaf their own way, but the aromatic spices are a must-have in any pilaf, and in this dish, I just didn't taste them at all.
Restaurant Bahroma reviews 2024
We ordered the laghman for 550 rubles - a hearty, savory noodle soup with meat and spices and veggies - another signature dish of Uzbek cuisine. Laghman should be super flavorful, and the main ingredient, the noodles, should be handmade. The difference between this laghman and the one I had on the east is huge: the broth in this laghman is less rich, and I just didn't get enough spices. And the portion size looks smaller than the picture in the menu. It's okay, but this laghman is still a long way from being perfect.
Restaurant Bahroma reviews 2024
Restaurant Bahroma reviews 2024Now, I have to say that the Shahristan salad for 550 rubles was absolutely mind-blowing and lived up to my expectations. It was just the right amount of spicy, and it was hands-down the tastiest dish we ordered this time around.
Restaurant Bahroma reviews 2024
Restaurant Bahroma reviews 2024Any cake or dessert in Bahroma is a work of art.
This time around, we tried the walnut cake for 350 rubles and it was so good that I'd highly recommend it to anyone! I've also had the cheesecake, panna cotta with strawberries, and pancake with pineapple in Bahroma, and they were all incredible.
Restaurant Bahroma reviews 2024
We ordered the cranberry juice for 150 rubles and the americano coffee for 150 rubles, which was offered for free when I paid with my card via Sberbank.
I've gotta say, the selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at Bahroma restaurants is pretty impressive. I even tried their tea, and it was perfectly brewed.
Bahroma reviews 2024I also have to give a shoutout to their amazing eggplant dishes, the grilled meats, khachapuri, and chiburekki. Not everything was perfect, but I'd definitely recommend ordering these.
Service:
I've never had any issues with service at Bahroma restaurants before: orders were always delivered on time, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
This time, the dining area was almost empty. We were greeted at the entrance, offered a table, and warned that our order would take around 20-30 minutes. And that's exactly how long it took – our order arrived right on the dot.
One thing that didn't impress me was the way they presented our finished dishes: the rice came first, followed by the soup, and the salad was offered almost as a dessert.
Bahroma reviews 2024And to top it all off, they forgot to include the discount in our bill – a major oversight, especially considering how many people have reported this issue. It's absurd that customers have to remind the staff about the ongoing promotions, especially in a restaurant where they work.
Impressions:
When a restaurant starts cutting costs, it's immediately noticeable to regular customers. Clearly, to avoid raising prices drastically, the restaurant has reduced portion sizes. Anyone who's been frequenting the same chain for years expects a consistent service and quality of food. Unfortunately, during my year-long absence, Bahroma's quality has taken a hit. The chain still offers a decent price point for the city, with decent food quality, but it would've been better to raise prices than visibly reduce portion sizes.
I was really disappointed with the service this time around. The QR code payment system, which might seem complex to some, was chaotic and inconsistent. Food was presented haphazardly.
That being said, Bahroma has its advantages: low prices and some incredibly tasty dishes. If you're looking for a place to eat in this price range, I'd recommend giving Bahroma a try – they're still the best option in this bracket.
Thanks for reading my review!
