A Realistic Review of the 4-Star Atana Hotel in Dubai

summarizeEditor's Summary

I spent a week at the 4-star Atana hotel in Dubai, and let me tell you, it's an experience that's hard to forget. The hotel has two buildings, with the 23-story Adam and Eve building being a real showstopper. Located in the Barsha Heights area, it's just a stone's throw away from the Dubai Internet City metro station, making it super convenient for tourists. But, to be honest, the hotel's layout and amenities left me with mixed feelings. Here's the lowdown on my stay.

Hello everyone.
This review is one of the last from my trip to Dubai, and I'm going to give you the lowdown on the 4-star Atana hotel.
I'll try to be as objective as possible, but I'm only human, so bear with me.
Let's get started!
The hotel has two buildings, and I've included some photos to give you an idea of what it looks like.
That's the 23-story building, Adam and Eve.
It's located in the Barsha Heights area, and there's a metro station nearby, Dubai Internet City.
From a location perspective, I think it's convenient for a city hotel, but it's a bit far from the beaches. The closest beach is about 8 kilometers from the hotel.
We booked a Deluxe room from September 22nd to 30th, which included breakfast and dinner on a buffet system.
Our room had a balcony, and I have to say, the view was pretty nice.
The view from the balcony was pretty nice, but I'll get into that later.
We booked the hotel through Booking.com without a prepayment, and we paid on the spot. The price was listed as $770 or 2,815 dirhams.
From the airport, we took a taxi to the hotel, and the concierge helped us with our luggage.
The hotel lobby is quite big, but unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of it. You can check it out online if you're interested.
The reception staff were mostly locals or Thais, but there were two staff members who spoke Russian quite well.
However, there was some confusion from the start with the check-in process.
Apparently, if you pay in dirhams, the exchange rate doesn't change, and the price remains the same as when you booked. But if you pay in dollars, the price increases, even though it says the price is fixed on Booking.com.
Initially, we planned to pay $770, but we were told we had to pay $820.
They offered to exchange our money at the hotel, but I didn't want to go looking for an exchange office after a 1.5-day flight, so we paid $820.
Okay, that's settled.
Up top, I showed you our room, and I mentioned that it had a balcony. But, as it turned out, the balcony door didn't open in the hotel. Luckily, ours did.
We stayed on the 15th floor, and here's what our view looked like: day / night
Now that's what I call beautiful!
After taking a little break, we decided to head to the pool, which is located inside the hotel.
And then we'd just chill under the palm tree.
Inside the hotel, we had a view like this. By the way, inside the hotel, near the pool, we sat and chilled in the evening after dinner.
I've got to say, I'm not a fan of the pool, since I never actually swam in it. The reason being, the water smells awful due to the chlorine. I just didn't feel like getting in.Okay.
It was time for dinner.
The dinner was a buffet-style, but it was more like a selection of a few dishes. I've got some issues with my digestive system, so I was limited to rice and fish every day.
Most of the food was fried, spicy, and herby. There were some fruits, but they were just sliced up - watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple. A few desserts, also sliced up - cakes. Tea, coffee, or juice. No alcohol in the hotel. Bread or a bun. Salads with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes. Two types of sausages and cheese.
This was our typical dinner.
You won't go hungry, but it's not exactly gourmet.
Breakfast was a lot better. They had cereal, porridge, omelets, Belgian waffles, pancakes, eggs, sausages, and a lot more.
I'd give breakfast a 5/5.
Okay, we had dinner and then went for a walk. When we got back, we realized we'd frozen our butts off.
It was all because the air conditioner was set to +19 by default.
We tried to turn it up, but it just wouldn't budge.
We went down to the reception five times, and finally, an engineer from the hotel came to explain. Apparently, the air conditioners are set to auto-mode in the hotel. You can't adjust the temperature. If you want a comfortable temperature, you just turn off the air conditioner, and it'll adjust to the right temperature on its own. Eventually, after a couple of days, the air conditioner was showing +25.5.
But I have to give credit where credit is due - the hotel staff were always willing to help.
There was one nice moment, unfortunately, on the second day of our stay in Dubai, I got sick. And I asked the hotel staff for a thermometer so I could adjust the temperature. But they didn't have one, so the administrator offered to call a doctor from the hotel, but for free.
Getting a doctor to visit our room cost around $10-$15.
After the consultation, the doctor said everything was fine and prescribed some medication. Then, he was out of there.
One thing that really bugged me was the lack of cleaning one day. Our towels weren't replaced, and we didn't get any new shampoo. When we went down to the front desk to complain, they tried to fob it off on us, saying we hadn't pressed the 'cleaning' button. But we explained that the button wasn't working.
It was a bit of a theme throughout our stay - lots of little things that got fixed one by one, but the hotel didn't seem to care.
For example:
Dubai's a pretty hot city, so clothes take two days to dry. Why not install some drying racks in the rooms or at least provide them?
I actually really liked the hotel overall.
1. The location was great
2. The staff were friendly and helpful
3. The breakfast was good
But there were enough little niggles to make me wonder if it was worth paying a bit more for a hotel that got the details right.
I'd still recommend the hotel, but be prepared for a few hiccups.
