This review's gonna be different from the rest. I'm gonna talk about the important stuff – the things people don't usually discuss. The things that creep into your mind when you're walking through the streets of Moscow.
The exhibition's located in the Museum of Moscow, at Zubovsky Boulevard, 2, building 7. It's not hard to find, just a short walk from Park Kultury metro station.
Once you're inside the museum, look for building 3.
That's where the exhibition's located.
Entrance to the exhibition.Inside, we showed our pre-purchased tickets. You can buy tickets on the mos.bilet platform, and they cost 400 rubles per person, no discounts or perks.
As you enter, you'll see a big hall with a cloakroom, a coffee shop, and a little bookstore.
The hall. The exhibition entrance is at the far end of the hall.
Entrance to the exhibition. Now, let me give you a quick rundown on what PNI is and what the exhibition's all about.
Walking into a Psychoneurological Institution (PNI) is a surreal experience. These facilities are designed for people with mental health disorders who require ongoing care and support. It's a place where people who are unable to fend for themselves live. We can only imagine what life is like behind the walls of these institutions. This exhibition aims to give us a glimpse into that world, sharing the stories of people who've ended up there and highlighting the fine line between living a normal life and one that's been affected by these institutions.
An installation that'll leave you thinking. As soon as you step into the exhibition, you're offered a test to assess your mental capacity. The questions are cleverly designed, and I found it challenging.
The mental capacity test. The exhibition space itself is dimly lit and depressing. The show is largely based on photographs by a renowned photographer. Throughout the exhibit, you'll be accompanied by a curator who'll answer your questions, ask you some of her own, and help you immerse yourself in the somber atmosphere.
The exhibition space.
Rooms with photos. Rooms with photos. Rooms with photos. Each room has its own story, with notes from the photographer and a soundtrack to match. It's like stepping into a different world in each one.
Notes from the photographer. Notes from the photographer. Each room has its own unique history, facts, and actions waiting to be discovered.
Photos. A room with photos.I won't give too much away, but trust me when I say it's worth experiencing in person.
Halls. Photos of the installation. There are countless stories on display, and the photos themselves are thought-provoking enough to make you stop and think.
As I walked through the exhibition, I was struck by the thought-provoking installations on display. But what really caught my attention was the entire gallery dedicated to an artist with autism spectrum disorder.
On the walls, there was a wealth of information about the artist and the theme of the exhibition. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into creating an immersive experience.
There were also computers set up where visitors could leave feedback and learn more about the creators behind the exhibition and the topic of autism.
Computer for feedback. This exhibition is not for the faint of heart. It deals with heavy topics, but it's also incredibly grounding. Many of the installations really made me think, and I appreciated the opportunity to engage with the topic in a meaningful way.
Problems fade into the background after seeing this. The exhibit is perfect for both adults and teenagers. It helps you find understanding, compassion, and empathy.
