Book: Zlodiy Series: Boston Beauties Author: L.J. Shen Tone: This one's a far cry from your run-of-the-mill romance - it's a fake marriage, Genre: Sexy Romance, and trust me, the little flower turned out to be a real firecracker.
I'll cut to the chase: the second book in the series is a total game-changer. From start to finish, it's like watching a perfectly edited movie, not reading a book. Nothing's unnecessary, no filler, no extra chapters just to pad the page count. Lots of readers agree, this one's the winner. I'm a fan, but the fourth book is still my number one.
I've been obsessed with my older brother, Fitzpatrick, for the past five years. That's a long time to be stuck on someone. I compared every guy I dated to this unattainable wealthy mogul, gazed at him longingly, and devoured every scrap of info about him in the press. Trying to forget him won't change a thing, I've tried before.
Storyline:
Persephone Ambrose - she's the sweet, innocent, and lovely kindergarten teacher. That's all you need to know about her. Persephone's best friend is Sailor Brennan (from the first book). They're tight with Persephone's older sister, Belle, and younger brother, Hunter Fitzpatrick, and his sister, Ashling Fitzpatrick. But Persephone's got one major flaw - Kellan Fitzpatrick.
Kellan's the complete opposite of Persephone. He's older, devastatingly handsome, bad, mean, and sometimes infuriating. (But Persephone was more infuriating to me) Also, as you might've guessed, he's Hunter and Ashling's older brother.
They've known each other for a long time, but their paths cross when they agree to a fake marriage to save both of them.
– What was on the menu? – Chicken in lemon sauce and risotto. – What were you thinking? – I wasn't thinking, I just wanted to impress you. – Maybe you wanted to poison me. – I raised an eyebrow. A hint of a smile played on his lips. – The only person you can poison is yourself, and you've been trying to do that for years. But even then, you failed miserably. – Hey, I did just fine! I'm not to blame for the fact that you had to rescue me.
– I still regret that. – He playfully nudged me.
This book's got so much action that something's always happening on almost every page. You can make all sorts of guesses, but more often than not, they'll be way off.
Kellan, – I warned him firmly. – Stop it. – You're just a brat. – My sister jumped up, pointing at Kellan. – You're just stating the obvious. – Kell yawned, ignoring my words. – Let's make it more interesting. The stakes remain the same, since you're the only poor soul at the table. If you lose, I'll cover your losses. But if I win, – Kell paused, blowing smoke from his cigar right into my face and looking at me with a mischievous grin, – I'll get what I want from you.
Verdict:
This book's definitely worth your time. The dialogue's fantastic, and there's less cliché than you'd expect. Everything makes sense, and you can easily justify any character's actions. It's because the author has a deep understanding of human nature and is able to craft characters that feel real and relatable.
One thing that really stood out to me about this book was the way the author wove together the complex relationships between the characters. The romance in this book is also expertly handled. The fake marriage trope can be a bit overdone, but in this case, it feels fresh and exciting. The tension between Persephone and Kellan is palpable, and their chemistry is undeniable.
Another thing I appreciated about this book was the way it tackled some heavier themes. Without giving too much away, let's just say that the author doesn't shy away from exploring some tough topics, and the result is a story that feels authentic and meaningful.
I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sexy romance with a touch of humor and wit. It's a fun, engaging read that'll keep you guessing until the very end.
So, if you're looking for a new book to get lost in, look no further than Zlodiy. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
