I'm sharing my honest review of the Yokohama IG65 225/55/18 T 102, which I found to be a great value for money.
I used Michelin tires for 5 years, but only with studs for 2 of them. The studs started coming off after the second season, and with them, all the money I spent on "quality" tires went down the drain. They were on my old Hyundai i30 T31.
When I switched to my new Outlander 3, I started looking for new tires. I considered Nokian Hakkapeliitta, Bridgestone Blizzak, and Gislaved 200. After reading reviews, I stumbled upon the Yokohama IG65. I chose it mainly because of the price, as there weren't many reviews about it, but based on its specs, including the number of studs, it compared favorably to the new Hakkapeliitta.
I drove through the first winter with 800 km of mileage. The result: I lost 2 studs, but only on one front wheel, which suggests I hit a pothole on our "best" roads. I was surprised by how well the buttons held up - they feel solid, and it's a great value for the price. As for the stiffness, it's average, and for usage on different roads:
City driving is where the Yokohama IG65 shines - it grips, stops, and handles great on ice. I don't care about noise, as long as it's safe, and it's not that loud or annoying.
On the highway, I'm not a fan of driving at 90 km/h, so when I gave it some gas, it handled great, even on a road with puddles and aquaplaning. It didn't skid or lose traction, and on asphalt, it was smooth sailing!
Dirt roads with 4-wheel drive are a different story. If I drove slowly on snow and ice, the tire didn't grip that well, as my Outlander 3 is a heavy vehicle. I had to slow down to make turns, and in a curve, it didn't behave that well.
I was really impressed with how the Yokohama IG65 performed, especially in city driving and on the highway. It's not that far off from the Hakkapeliitta or other top-tier tires. Let's see how it performs after the second season!
