Many people think believing in Grandfather Frost is just for kids, but we're convinced that magic is for everyone, regardless of age. I'll tell you all about it and how much it cost us.
Responses for 2024-2025We started early.
I'll start with the drawings. If you've got a little one, it's best to start making them ahead of time, even in the summer. You don't need them to be super festive, just something theme-related. My son was two at the time, and I knew he wouldn't be into drawing in December. So we started in the summer: printing out handprints, drawing trees and reindeer, and even making a paper snowman. I was surprised at how well he could cut out shapes at two years old!
Envelopes and postage.
We bought the envelopes without stamps on a marketplace and got the stamps from the post office. It took a lot of time, but it's easier with an older kid. We sent the letters at the end of September, on the 29th and 30th. We didn't regret it, though, because they took a long time to arrive...
How do you write a letter? Who did we write to? We didn't just write to Grandfather Frost and the Snow Maiden, but also to Kys Babay, Khel Muchi (that's the Chuvash version of Grandfather Frost), and even sent a few letters abroad. We wanted to write to all the international ones, but when we found out the shipping cost, we limited ourselves to a couple. As for the Russian fairy tale characters, we wrote to all of them we could find addresses for.
About the money. The stamps cost around 31 rubles each. For the first shipment, we spent 600 rubles. My tip: if you're getting plain envelopes without stamps, it's better to buy them and stick the stamps on right away. The post office offered to do it for us, but it cost extra – around 15 rubles per envelope, since we had a lot. We sent the letters in batches to avoid taking everything to the post office at once.
