Hello fellow pet owners!
I've got a whole menagerie at home - five adorable rats and a lovable Djungarian hamster. I've been buying these granules from Vaka for a while now, and they're specifically designed for hamsters, rats, and other small animals. This time, I got the version labeled as suitable for rats and mice, and it's got some differences from the ones I've had before.
First off, this is an assortment pack with a roughly equal mix of fruit and veggie granules. Sometimes one type dominates over the other, but I like the variety.
Secondly, the colored granules are generally larger than usual. I think this is a nice touch, as they're easier to give to your pets.
Lastly, the packaging is way more convenient than the usual bag. It's colorful, cardboard-based, and has a cute design.
Where I bought it and the price.
I picked it up at the Vaka store, which is also the manufacturer. The price was around 116 rubles, and they seem to keep it within a relatively consistent range.
Packaging and appearance.
The packaging is colorful and has a fun design. On the front, there are three cute rats enjoying some cubes. Two of the rats look suspiciously like my boys.
There are also images of fruits and veggies. The main colors of the packaging are white and pink, which I think is a nice combination.
I love the heart-shaped window on the front, which lets you peek at the granules. It's a nice touch that adds to the overall design.
One side has a guide on how to open it, but I just opened it from the top. The back has the description, feeding recommendations, and basic info.
However, the nutritional value and ingredients are on the other side.
The granules come in three varieties: white flowers, green circles, and pink roundels. My pets love the variety, and it makes mealtime more interesting.
Ingredients.
Multigrain granules (dried fruits, dried vegetables, wheat bran, oats, rye flour, wheat bran, dried brewer's yeast).
The ingredient list is super simple and natural. I like that the ingredients are the same across all versions of this treat.
I can give it to all my pets, including my hamster, without worrying about any issues. Dried brewer's yeast is considered beneficial for small animals, so that's a plus.
Usage.
I've got to say, the packaging says these granules can replace regular food, but that's not the case. I've had experience with a Syrian hamster who had problems when I switched to a seed-free diet - her fur lost its shine, and she even got bald spots. When I went back to regular food and added vitamins, everything sorted itself out.
These granules don't provide all the necessary nutrients, so they're best used as a treat, not a replacement. I give them to all my pets as a treat, and they love them.
The hamster gets them most often, while the rats get them as a reward to help with training and socialization. The granules are a bit bigger than the usual ones, which makes them easier to give to your pets.
The colors are normal-sized, and the round ones are small but not as tiny as some I've seen before. My pets gobble them up with enthusiasm, and they might not love them as much as the 'Gryzunchik' granules, but they enjoy them.
I find it more fun to give them when the granules are different colors - it adds some variety. The male rats take them carefully, trying not to nip my fingers.
Amodaeus devours them at an incredible speed, while the others eat more slowly. Occasionally, I scatter them around the cage for the younger ones to find and collect, so they don't bother the older ones while they eat.
The female rats aren't as careful when they take them.
They eat well too. Honestly, I haven't seen any issues with that.
My hamster prioritizes the pellets if he sees them in the bowl, stuffs them in his cheeks. Occasionally, he'll take some from my hand.
The Verdict.
This is a great treat for its price, assuming it's not overpriced. I wouldn't replace my hamster's regular food with it, but it's perfect as a snack.
