I'm a huge fan of Thierry Mugler. I've tried a bunch of their fragrances, and so far, I've been really impressed. While not every scent in their lineup is a winner, I'm sticking with their bottles for now.
The first Mugler fragrance I purchased was Alien in EDT form – I wrote a full review on it. It's this gorgeous, cold jasmine that's unique to Mugler. It's a bit detached, otherworldly, and utterly beautiful.
Every time I wear a Mugler fragrance, I get compliments, and I feel really confident. Sometimes, I'll find a brand that has 1-2 scents that really resonate with me, but the rest just don't do it for me. Mugler, however, has a certain style and DNA that's unmistakable, and their scents are just amazing.
I've gotta say, I'm still blown away by how each new Angel flanker brings something unique to the table. The praline one by Quentin Bisch really stood out to me, as did the coconut-pineapple stunner. Know what really caught my attention about the Alien line?
I've gotta say, the mystery surrounding this fragrance is part of its charm. It's so unique, so unapologetically itself. Jasmine is a common note in many perfumes, but not all brands aim to make it clean, crisp, and even a bit alien. Do they all give it that signature touch?
The Alien by Thierry Mugler is a bold, enigmatic jasmine scent that dares to be different from the elegant, refined bouquets we're used to. The deep purple bottle itself is a statement, hinting that this is a perfume for the true sorceress who casts a spell with just a glance and a touch.
I've tried my fair share of jasmine-based perfumes, and I have to say, this flower can be a bit finicky. Sometimes it's dirty and smoky, other times it's just too harsh. But every now and then, I come across a transparent, unadulterated example of what jasmine should be.
The Alien doesn't fit into any of those categories. It's its own unique take on the flower, so expertly blended that I never even think about the fact that it's jasmine. It just works, and I'm not sure how they managed to pull it off.

I've got to say, despite the claim of just three notes, the formula is way more complex than what they're letting on. There's so much abstract stuff going on that I'm picking up on way more than just those three notes. If I'm being honest, I think I'm getting a whiff of menthol (you'll catch it if you sniff it close to your skin) and it pairs beautifully with the cashmere. Although the solo molecule didn't grab me, the smell is just awful. But there's beauty in this scent.

Yeah, I'm definitely picking it up, but it's the combination with jasmine that gives it a coldness and menthol from the get-go. But then it starts to warm up and soften on my skin.
It's worth noting that the cashmere is way more subtle in the eau de toilette, even though it's a bit more prominent. That's why it doesn't have that menthol vibe (cashmere in its natural state is way more noticeable), but it still warms up nicely on the skin. And that's exactly what makes this note so beautiful in Mugler.
I've tried Molecule 05, which is basically all about it, but that was a total disaster. Alien, on the other hand, is just divine.
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THE SCENT.
You know, if I'm not comparing it to the eau de toilette, it feels like it's almost the same thing. But no, they're totally different – the main component is jasmine. The eau de toilette is way more prominent, more playful, but also more transparent and detached. And they've got a similar abstractness to them. I know it sounds crazy, but I get a weird association with the smell of an iron. You know, when you've just ironed a few clothes and it smells like the hot iron and the steam coming off the fabric.
Let's talk about the eau de parfum - it's like a sassy sorceress. It's sexy, mysterious, and alluring. On my skin, it's warmer and the jasmine is way more laid-back for me, plus that smooth woody texture is a game-changer. It's richer, sweeter, and more sensual. The eau de toilette is otherworldly and proud, but the eau de parfum somehow understands people better and gives them a sense of warmth and comfort.
The scent starts off strong, and that jasmine-kashmir combo is insane. The jasmine is unique, like Mugler-esque. I'm having a hard time describing it, but it's like nothing else. Maybe it's the way it's tied to the kashmir molecule, which gives it a coolness and detachment, but then warms up later.
The jasmine is a bit wild and abusive. It's like it's letting you go, then pulling you back in, saying 'Hey, I'm back!' And I'm okay with that. My brain doesn't get fixated on it throughout the day, although I feel its presence in waves, knowing it's there forever. But the way it settles on my skin is pure comfort.
Projection and sillage. That's another interesting aspect. You put it on, and it's like it's screaming at everyone. Literally, for two minutes, it's like, 'Hey, I'm here!' Then it just chill and shuts down. It'll pop up, remind you it's there, but in a super subtle way.Everyone around me loves it. I've given out samples, and people can't get enough. I've even given out the eau de parfum, and people still can't get enough. I've come to the realization that I don't need the eau de parfum because I have the eau de toilette.
I can explain why: yes, they're different, but I'm leaning towards the eau de toilette. It's more in line with my understanding of this alien from another planet - it's exotic and foreign.
Longevity is about 7 hours on the skin. It lasts for days on clothes and hair, like it's glued on. And I love it, I want to update it right away. When I wear it, I even feel bad washing my shirts. It's just so gorgeous, so sensual, and sexy.
Yeah, if you ask me about the sexiest jasmine out there, it's gotta be this Alien in its two classic versions. The flankers are a different story.
