A Compelling but Flawed Thriller with Chris Pratt

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently binged this short series, 'The List of Dead Meetings', starring Chris Pratt, after getting tired of delayed productions due to US strikes. The story follows James Reese, a special forces team leader, as he uncovers a conspiracy after a secret mission goes wrong. The plot's engaging, but it's marred by some questionable character development and a rushed ending. The cinematography is solid, and Chris Pratt does a great job as the lead. However, the show's themes and plot twists could have been explored more thoroughly. I'd have liked to see more depth in the supporting characters and a more satisfying conclusion. Overall, it's a decent watch, but it falls short of being a truly memorable experience.

Hello everyone!
xa0
I've been eagerly waiting for the latest seasons of my favorite shows, like The Handmaid's Tale, Stranger Things, and Little Lies. Unfortunately, all the productions have been delayed due to massive strikes in the US.
So, I decided to look for a completed short series. I chose The List of Dead Meetings because I'm a huge fan of Chris Pratt. I didn't even read any reviews about the series.
Here's a brief summary:
xa0
* During a secret mission, a special forces team gets ambushed. The only survivor, the team leader James Reese, returns home and buries his fallen comrades. Soon, he starts suspecting that the ambush was part of a conspiracy by shadowy organizations, and he and his loved ones are in grave danger.
xa0
I'm a huge fan of action movies, and I love Chris Pratt, so it all came together for me.

DESCRIPTION
The main description is already in the trailer. No secrets are kept in the story. Everything is revealed in the first episode.
The main character, played by Chris Pratt, is a team leader who returns home after a mission where almost all his team members died.
I have to say, from the get-go, something about this series felt off.
xa0
What I really liked was how the show doesn't take sides - you can choose your own perspective from the start. I was Team James from the very beginning.
xa0
This series is a real adrenaline rush, with plenty of action and drama. I appreciate that it's not too sappy - I've been there, done that, and got the tears to prove it. I'm not a fan of overly sentimental dramas, and this one didn't make me cry or get all sniffly.
xa0
The pacing is lightning-fast, with impressive special effects and no draggy dialogue. That's what makes this show stand out to me.
xa0
THE MAIN CHARACTERS
Chris Pratt plays James Reece, the lead character in this series.
xa0
He's the commander of the Navy's SEAL Team 666 - a tough, capable, and intelligent guy who's not afraid to get his hands dirty. He's also got a heart of gold and is a true gentleman. Okay, maybe he's not perfect, but who cares?
Constance Wu plays Katie Buranek, a feisty and independent journalist who's always in the thick of things.
xa0
Honestly, she really got on my nerves the whole series. She's just so unpleasant. I'm not sure if it's because she's a bad actress or if she just wasn't given a good role.
xa0
She's supposed to be a positive character, but she just leaves me confused. Sometimes she overacts, and sometimes she underacts.
xa0
Taylor Kitsch - Ben Edwards - is also a former military guy. Now he works in a closed government structure. He helps James Rus in gathering information.
xa0
Some people say he's a huge plus, that he's another hot guy in the cast. But honestly, I didn't even know who he was until this series.
xa0
STORYLINE
The storyline has two main threads - James Rus's investigation and his punishment of the people who wronged him, as well as his memories of the past. Everything is very logical and doesn't feel forced.
xa0
There's also drama, action, and special effects. I really enjoyed this show. To me, the storyline never gets dull. Sometimes you're watching a series, and you're stuck listening to boring conversations, thinking, 'What's the point of all this?' But here, the storyline changes, and it's all very logical and interesting. Plus, there are plenty of handsome guys
Like that actor from Divergent - I didn't even recognize him, he's become so polished and handsome
xa0
IMAGE
I've got to say, the visuals in this show are pretty dark. I don't remember any super-gorgeous scenes or landscapes. To be honest, the show isn't really about that.
I'm a sucker for beautiful movies and handsome actors. All in all, I've got no complaints about this show.
From the screenshots alone, you can tell it's a dark and moody show. Not exactly uplifting.
VERDICT
This show is totally watchable. It's not the kind of thing you'll re-watch over and over, but it's interesting enough. I didn't find it too dramatic or emotionally taxing, so I'd definitely recommend it for a casual watch.
I hope my review was helpful. Cheers!
