The Housekeeper: A Gripping Mystery That'll Keep You Hooked
I just finished reading 'The Housekeeper', and I'm still reeling from the experience. This book was a surprise – I thought it'd be a lighthearted, easy read, but it turned out to be so much more. It's one of the top 10 books of the year, but I'd never heard of it or the author, and that's what drew me in – the premise of a housekeeper with a mysterious past and a penchant for order was intriguing.
I dove right in, and the story sucked me in from the very first page. We meet Molly, a housekeeper at a high-end hotel, who's been doing her job for 25 years. She's a stickler for details and takes pride in her work, but she's also awkward and struggles to connect with people. I found myself drawing parallels with autism, OCD, and social anxiety – the author handles these topics in a gentle, non-judgmental way, which I appreciated.
The author does a great job of making Molly relatable, even if she's not always likable. I wasn't overly invested in her emotions, but that wasn't a problem – it was more about the mystery and the twists and turns. Speaking of which, the detective aspect of the book is top-notch. When Molly discovers a guest dead in their room, she becomes the prime suspect.
I thought I knew whodunit from the get-go, but boy was I wrong. The ending is a real surprise, and I loved it. The book's packaging is also worth mentioning – the cover is a gorgeous, eye-catching shade of pink.
I was hooked from the start, and I couldn't put it down. The writing is engaging, and the story's full of unexpected turns. If you're looking for a mystery with a unique protagonist, this is the book for you. I'd give it a solid 10 out of 10 – it's a must-read for anyone who loves a good whodunit.
One of the things that stood out to me was the way the author wove together the different plot threads. It's clear that they put a lot of thought into creating a complex and engaging story. The pacing is well-balanced, with a good mix of action, suspense, and quiet moments.
Overall, I'd highly recommend 'The Housekeeper' to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. It's a gripping and engaging read that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
