My Take on Snow White in the Lunar Chronicles

summarizeEditor's Summary

I dove into the latest Lunar Chronicles installment, Snow White, and was blown away by the unique blend of classic tale and futuristic setting. While the cover art didn't quite hit the mark, the e-book cover is a much better fit for the character. As I read, I found myself torn between the engaging storyline and the frustrating characters. The pacing can be a bit slow in certain sections, making it hard to stay engaged, but the world-building is top-notch and the romance is sweet and tender.

My Take on Snow White in the Lunar Chronicles
I picked up the latest installment in the Lunar Chronicles series, Snow White, and I'm still reeling from the experience. As a fan of the series, I was eager to dive into this new story and see how the author would bring this classic tale to life in a futuristic setting.
The cover art didn't quite do it for me. I prefer the e-book cover, which features a sweet, young Snow White holding an apple. It's a much better fit for the character.
One thing that really bugged me was Levana's character. She's just too ruthless and heartless. Her methods for maintaining power are pretty brutal, and sometimes she comes across as just plain annoying. I get it, villains can't be all nice and cuddly, but a bit more compassion wouldn't hurt.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole blood thing in the antidote. It's a big deal, and it's not something I'm comfortable with. I've had my own experiences with blood, and now I'm super cautious when it comes to it.
Overconfidence can be a real turn-off. There are moments in the book where people do nothing but cause trouble and act like they know it all. It's infuriating.
Despite the moments that might make you roll your eyes in real life, the book was actually pretty easy to get through and it was engaging. That's the end of the war, and you get to see the losses and victories, the struggles and triumphs that led to it.
Snow White herself is an interesting character - fragile, yet strong and brave.
I've become so invested in this series that I feel like I'm a part of the world itself. I've got my own hovercar, and I'm part of a mission to take down the magnetic trains in the tunnel.
The Takeaways
Despite its flaws, the story is super engaging. It's definitely worth checking out. It wraps up the war started by Levana and gives us a closer look at the main characters. Plus, it introduces some new ones. And, at 500+ pages, it's the thickest book in the series so far.
It also gives us a fresh perspective on one of Disney's most beloved heroines.
