I've never been a fan of The Big Bang Theory TV show. I tried watching the first episode, but it didn't grab my attention. However, while scrolling through TikTok, I stumbled upon a clip from The Big Bang Theory that really caught my attention, so I decided to give it a try. Initially, I didn't even realize it was a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, but then I remembered where I had seen the name Sheldon Cooper before.Plot:
Sheldon Cooper is a nine-year-old child prodigy who's in the 9th grade. In his family, school, and possibly the whole city, there's no one like him. He's not interested in kids' toys or cartoons. Instead, he's trying to launch a rocket and loves a science show with Professor Proton.
Characters:
Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) is a genius kid. Despite his high IQ, he has many quirks and eccentricities. Sheldon meticulously follows a schedule for using the bathroom, is terrified of germs, and struggles with socialization. He's incredibly smart when it comes to science, but in everyday life, he remains a naive child who knows very little about the world. At the same time, he loves to mock those around him, often targeting not just his brother or sister but also his father.
Missy Cooper (Raleigh Revord) is Sheldon's twin sister. She's his complete opposite. Her inability to understand science is more than made up for by her excellent social skills and quick wit. Missy is a charmer, and her sharp but always timely humor won my heart. For me, Missy is the epitome of the phrase 'big personality in a small package'. I loved watching her interactions with her family members, and her humor really stood out.
George Cooper Jr. (Montana Jordan) is my older brother Sheldon and Missy's older brother. As a teenager, he's obsessed with TV, girls, and adult magazines. Despite barely passing his classes, he's got some decent entrepreneurial skills. I enjoyed watching him navigate his teenage years and deal with his family's quirks.
Mary Cooper (Zoey Perry) is my mom. She's super religious, but she's also got a great sense of humor - it's a great reminder that even the most perfect people have their flaws. She can get a bit too emotional and tries to control everything. I loved watching her interact with her family and deal with the challenges of parenting.
George Cooper Sr. (Lance Barber) is my dad. He's your typical TV sitcom dad - he works as a high school football coach and loves to unwind with a beer in front of the TV after work. He's less emotional than my mom, but he's still got a soft spot for the family. I enjoyed watching him navigate his role as a father and husband.
Constance Tucker, aka Grandma Constance (Annie Potts) is my grandma and Mary's mom. She's the complete opposite of my mom - she's a bit of a wild child who loves to drink and smoke. But despite her flaws, she's got a ton of charm and is always there for the grandkids, offering advice and a listening ear. I loved watching her interactions with her family and seeing her true personality shine through.
I have to say, I enjoyed watching the Cooper family - they're a pretty quirky bunch. It's entertaining to see how they interact with each other. Each character is well-developed, and their relationships feel real. The siblings bicker and fight, but they also genuinely care about each other. I loved watching their dynamics and seeing how they navigate their relationships.
The cast is excellent, and I think they nailed their roles. The young Ian Armitage and Regan Revord really caught my attention from the start. I loved watching them grow and develop as characters throughout the show.
The show tackles some important themes: self-acceptance, family values, and growing up. It's a mix of drama and family comedy. I appreciated how the show handled these themes and made them relatable to the audience.
I have to give a shout-out to the humor - it's a bit quirky, but it works. I watched the show in both the original version with Russian subtitles and the dubbed version with Courage Bombay's voice. I enjoyed both versions. For example, the infamous 'Bazinga' line is way funnier in the original version. And Missy's lines in the dubbed version are spot-on and hilarious.
Despite not being a fan of TV shows, I found the plot to be pretty easy to follow, and I didn't have any questions. The only times I was confused were when the narrator, Jim Parsons, explained some parts. I appreciated how the show was able to balance its complex plot with its lighthearted humor.
One more thing I loved about the show is the lack of laugh tracks. I think that's why I never got into the TV version. The show's natural humor and character interactions made it feel more authentic and engaging.
The episodes are relatively short, at around 20 minutes each, so the show is easy to binge-watch. I enjoyed watching the Cooper family's adventures and misadventures, and I was sad when the show ended.
Verdict:
I really enjoyed watching this show, and I was sad when it ended. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of The Big Bang Theory, even if you're not familiar with the show. It's a heartwarming and hilarious show that's perfect for families and fans of comedy.
