A Sweet Treat at a Budget Price: Rot Front's Cow-Themed Candies

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm a sucker for cow-themed candies, and Rot Front's offerings didn't disappoint. For a budget-friendly price, these wafers deliver a satisfying crunch and rich chocolate flavor. However, some batches can be a bit too airy, and the ingredients list might raise some eyebrows. They're a tasty treat that's worth trying, especially if you're a fan of traditional Russian confections. But be prepared for some inconsistencies in quality.

I've got a soft spot for cow-themed candies, so the cow from Rot Front was next in line for a review.
Rot Front Cow Cow Cow Caramel Wafers Reviews
Type: wafers.
Price per 1 kg: 597.90 rubles.
Weight of 1 candy: 14 g
Where to buy: widely available in most chain supermarkets, and always on marketplaces.
Country, city: Russia, Moscow
Manufacturer, brand: Rot Front, or as they now call themselves - 'United Confectioners', which I'm separately interested in because they have many candies with a history or traditional themes. Since 'United Confectioners' produce candies on different factories, it might make sense to indicate which factory made the candies I'm reviewing. Although the recipe and standards within the holding should be the same across all factories, my candies were made in Tambov by the 'Takf' confectionery company.
Product description:
Cow Cow Candies are something in between a wafer candy and a full-sized wafer. Large squares of layered wafers, filled with a delicate chocolate cream and topped with a fragrant chocolate glaze. Crunchy, airy giant candies with a bright, slightly bitter chocolate flavor and a rich aroma will perfectly complement your tea and both at home and in the office.
A Brief History and Some General Moments
I've gotta say, the Rotfrontovskaya cow is the only one that truly deserves the name. The factory's got a patent on the old Soviet title, and the others just tack on extra words or make up their own. But let's be real, you can't help but call them a cow, no matter what they're called.
Originally, the cow was a type of pomade, with a liquid center and a sugary coating, which was invented back in Poland.
It's no surprise that different Soviet factories started churning out these creamy-pomade candies around the time of the 2MV era. And the waffle cow is a slightly later addition to the beloved cow's lineup – now there are a few of them, including the star of this review, the 'Chocolate Taste Cow'.
Waffle Cow Confectionery Rot Front Reviews
I've gotta admit, I've never tried any of the old-school cows, which is a shame – I would've loved to. Nowadays, many of these historical candies have been simplified and lost their charm. And you don't even need to try them to know it – just take a look at the ingredients, and you'll see how many are basically the same.
Still, I enjoy them, even if they've lost their original appeal. And judging by the quality of this cow, it's going to be around for at least another decade, even with its current ingredients.
Let's Talk Packaging
The packaging is an individual flowpack – it's sealed and practical, although it might disappoint those who collect wrappers.
It can be a bit tricky to open, but I've seen people who don't care about wrappers manage just fine.
Roth Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
I've seen plenty of candies with cow designs, but this one takes the cake. The design is spot on, and I love how it's not too over-the-top. The cow face is adorable, and the bright, contrasting colors really pop. You can even see the image of the candy itself, which is a nice touch. The rich brown color gives it a chocolatey feel, and the name of the candy unfolds like a mini-movie title. The vintage-style milk bottle label element adds a nice touch, and the whole thing is set against a serene countryside backdrop. Even the Roth Front logo fits in seamlessly. It's a clever, evocative design that really stands out.
Roth Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
One thing I appreciate about this candy is that it's free from artificial colors and preservatives.
Roth Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information on the ingredients.
Roth Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
My favorite candy shape is square – it's big enough, but not too thick, making it easy to bite into.
Roth Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
The glaze is so thin and tight that it's like a see-through top – it's almost too good to be true.
As you can see from the photo, the wafer is visible through the glaze in some places.
Roth Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
The glaze looks really great – it's got a rich color and a nice shine. And the pattern on the bottom is amazing. A bad glaze wouldn't be able to hold a design like that.
Roth Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
The glaze melts a bit in your hands, but it's perfect – it's like it's made from cocoa butter. It doesn't melt right away or turn into a mess, but it takes a little time.
Taste
Despite being thin, the glaze plays a big role. The cocoa flavor is really intense – almost too intense.
Rott Frot Cow Caramel Review
Honestly, I was expecting a lot more from these caramels. The waffle itself is way too airy, and I barely get to experience it. I'm not a fan of sweets that feel like you're eating air or something filled with air.
There's barely any milk or cream flavor at all. It's pretty disappointing, especially considering the whole cow and milk theme.
However, if you take a big bite and don't think about the cream or caramel, it's not bad. The chocolate flavor is still noticeable and appetizing, even if the waffle is still pretty empty.
Rott Frot Cow Caramel Review
I have to say, I didn't even notice the 'delicate chocolate cream' between the waffles at first. It's only when I looked at the photo that I saw it – it's pretty obvious. To be honest, the taste of this cream is basically indistinguishable from the glaze.
Rott Frot Cow Caramel Review
Unfortunately, these caramels aren't for me, but some members of my family seem to enjoy them. They crunch and they're getting a lot of praise.
Quality
I've seen some criticism about the 'melting glaze' in other reviews, but I haven't experienced that myself. The glaze is always thin, but dense and smooth, and it's got a great color.
Rot Front Cow Wafer Candy Reviews
Ingredients
I was surprised to find that the ingredient list isn't on the packaging. And to be honest, it's not super easy to find online either. Even the official website has it hidden in a way that makes it hard to read.
Confectioner's glaze (sugar, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated palm oil, emulsifiers: E492 and soy lecithin, cocoa powder, emulsifiers: soy lecithin, E476, flavoring /vanilla/), wafer sheets (water, wheat flour, potato starch, refined and deodorized sunflower oil, soy lecithin, salt, baking powder - sodium bicarbonate, dry egg white powder, acidity regulator - citric acid), sugar, refined and deodorized coconut oil, confectioner's fat (refined and deodorized vegetable oils: partially hydrogenated palm oil, partially hydrogenated sunflower oil, antioxidant tocopherols, mixture concentrate), cocoa powder, dry whole milk, cornstarch, flavoring /vanilla/, antioxidant ascorbic acid.
I wouldn't trust the ingredient lists on different store websites – they're all shortened and different. The good news is that the candy is made according to a technical specification, and you can find the certificates on the official Alenka website.
I'm not going to comment on the ingredients, and it's pretty clear why when you consider the price. At 500 rubles, the price is pretty much the same everywhere, especially if they're advertising it as chocolate.

Sugar Love
I was drawn to the lightness of these candies, so I wanted to see how they stack up to other candies in terms of sugar content. Normally, you can have 2 classic candies per day, and the WHO already recommends not having much more. In fact, it's even better to get your daily dose of quick carbs through dried fruits, fruits, natural honey, and other healthy treats.
But what about indulgence? So, sometimes I look for candies that you can have a bit more of, like 1-2 per day. To satisfy your sweet tooth without hurting your waistline. Can this cow candy really fill that role?
In 100g of Roth Front Cow Chocolate Candy, there are 56.8g of carbs. That's about 8g per candy.
Well, it looks like an adult can definitely have 6 Cow Chocolate Candies and still be within the WHO's recommended daily limit. But 3 candies are definitely within the moderate limit for an adult – no more than 25g.
This means that Cow Chocolate Candy is actually lighter than most candies, making it a great option for transitioning periods when you need to cut back on sweets but can't quite bring yourself to do it.

The Verdict
It's a blast writing reviews for a product that's this on point and good.
I can totally feel the ease of use.
I'm not gonna lie, these candies aren't my cup of tea – for me, they're lacking in substance and structure. The wafers are a bit of a novelty, but here they're just too light. These candies are way too light for someone who enjoys savoring and taking small bites. And the cocoa bitterness isn't my go-to, I respect that, but here it's all they've got.
Personally, I'll keep on loving the creamy, non-chocolate "corvina" from Volsky Confectioner.
But for chocolate lovers and those who enjoy crunchy wafers, I'd highly recommend the Rotorvontovskaya corvina. If you enjoy both of these components, these corvina candies could be a fantastic daily tea companion. The lightness and chocolate. And in terms of taste, the candies give off a sense of being worthy.
We have fans of these combinations, so these candies have earned a permanent spot! I've bought them multiple times, and I've never seen them sit around in the candy dish. Simple, yet so cozy and easy to understand.
Corvina Rotorvontovskaya wafery candies reviews
I also really appreciate the quality balance. It's available everywhere, easy to buy, no need to wait for delivery on marketplaces, but you can if you need a larger pack, looks good, practical, and affordable price.
Finally, the sugar. My kid knows their candy limit, but they don't count, weigh, or check the ingredients. They eat that candy and get less added sugar than with others. Just as much fun – less sugar.
Enjoy the treats!
