A Reliable Ride for the Long Haul

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've had this car for three years now, and it's been a real performer. I bought it in 2017 with 74,000 miles on it, and now it's got 140,000 miles on the clock. As a first-time car owner, I was a bit nervous, so I did my research and read up on forums. I've done most of the repairs myself in my garage, and I've gotta say, the suspension has been a real highlight. The stiffer silent blocks I installed from an Audi TT have made a huge difference - the suspension is incredibly reliable, even on rough terrain. I regularly drive on dirt roads, and it handles like a charm. The car's also been pretty good on gas, saving me a pretty penny over the years. I've also been able to find affordable replacement parts when I needed to make repairs, which has been a lifesaver. The only things that could use some work are the interior and sound insulation - it's a bit dated and not the most comfortable, and you can hear the engine a bit too much on long drives. But overall, it's been a reliable ride for the long haul.

I've had this car for three years now, and I've gotta say, it's been a real performer.
I've only had to replace it once, at around 15-20,000 miles, and since then, it's been rock-solid. The stiffer silent blocks I installed from an Audi TT have made a huge difference - the suspension is incredibly reliable, even on rough terrain. I regularly drive on dirt roads, and it handles like a charm.
One thing I've noticed is that when I drive above 160 km/h, the car can get a bit unsettled. I'm not sure if it's the suspension or the power steering, but it's not a major issue for me. I'm happy to stick to 140 km/h, where the car feels nice and steady.
The 1.6-liter engine with 105 horsepower is a real gem. It's got plenty of poke, especially from low revs. I've driven a Hyundai Solari with a 1.6-liter engine, and that thing was a real slug. My car, on the other hand, just pulls away from the line. Of course, above 110 km/h, it can get a bit lazy on the acceleration, but that's not a major issue for me.
As for the engine, I've had no issues whatsoever. I change the oil every 7,000-8,000 miles with some basic synthetic Lukoil, and it's been running like a top. I've even replaced the timing chain at 125,000 miles, and it's still going strong. I've also replaced the water pump twice - the first time, I went for a cheaper option, but it started making noise in the winter. The second time, I splurged on a more expensive one, and it's been quiet as a mouse.
I'd recommend replacing the VCG valve membrane with an original part, not some cheap knockoff. Trust me, it's worth the extra cash.
One thing I'm not too fond of is the thin coat of paint on the body. It's not a major issue, but it does show scratches and scuffs easily. I've even bought some touch-up paint to cover up any deep scrapes. I've also noticed that the paint seems to be fading a bit in the sun - maybe it's just me, but it looks like it could use a repaint.
The interior is pretty basic, but it's comfortable enough. My only real gripe is the lack of sound insulation, especially under the front doors. It's not a major issue, but it can be a bit annoying. I've even noticed that the wind noise can be a bit loud on the highway - maybe it's just the design of the car, but it's something to consider.
The seats are pretty basic, but I've replaced the fabric trim with some leather ones. If you've got a non-leather interior, I'd recommend getting some seat covers. They make a huge difference in terms of comfort and style.
One thing I do miss is the lack of a center console light. It's a bit of a pain to feel around in the dark. I've even installed some LED strips to light up the dashboard - it's a game-changer.
Another thing I've noticed is the lack of USB and AUX ports in the stock stereo. I mean, come on, it's the 21st century! I ended up buying a cheap aftermarket stereo with those features. It's been a lifesaver - I can finally listen to my favorite podcasts on the go.
The boot is plenty spacious, and I've even managed to fit a canoe, some fishing gear, and a stroller in there. It's a real family car, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable ride. The value for money is also great - I've had this car for three years, and I've only had to replace a few parts. It's been a real cost-effective option. Overall, this car may not be the most comfortable ride on the market, but it's got the reliability to back it up. If you're looking for a hassle-free driving experience, look no further. I'd say it's one of the best cars I've ever owned - it's got a great build quality, a smooth engine, and plenty of space. What more could you ask for?
