I've had this sandwich maker for a while now, and it's mainly been used for one thing: making waffles. To be honest, I would've preferred a waffle maker with better features, but the sandwich maker does the job. Making sandwiches is convenient, but for some reason, my family got bored with them quickly. The grill heat, in my opinion, isn't that hot. I tried using the grill panels once, but it didn't work out for me, and I ended up losing them somewhere. To be honest, I didn't miss them that much. As for the recipes, I found them to be pretty basic. I didn't learn anything new from the recipe booklet. Most of the recipes are for hot sandwich fillings, and there are a few waffle recipes. But to be honest, I've never used them – I'm a fan of using pre-mixed waffle batter. It's convenient and always turns out well. Functional Features One thing I don't like is that you can't adjust the temperature - it's always set to the factory default. The power and ready indicators on the side are pretty subtle, but they're not too annoying. They're not perfectly synchronized, though, so you might need to wait for the green light or use the red one as a rough guide. I've found that I can start cooking with the red light still on, which is useful for saving time. It heats up to working temperature in about 2-3 minutes, and the heating plates are evenly heated. The non-stick coating works a charm - even with minimal oil, food doesn't stick around. One of my major gripes with this appliance is the lack of temperature control I mentioned earlier. The waffles take way too long to cook. The only plus is that it's impossible to burn your food. I haven't tested it, but I reckon it'd take around 20 minutes for them to start burning.Maintenance and Use The removable plates are a breeze to take off and wash by hand. Just wipe them down with a soft sponge and some soap, then dry them. The non-stick coating is a huge plus, as food barely sticks to the plates. In terms of maintenance, this appliance is a solid 5 out of 5.

Verdict I remember when this panini press first arrived at home, I couldn't get enough of it. At first, the most popular settings were the hot panini plates. Yeah, they're delicious, but it's like eating fast food all the time – loads of bread, cheese, and meat. It's easy to put on the pounds. In the end, I only make paninis very rarely, and usually when I'm at the cottage.

My most private use for this panini press is as a waffle iron for Belgian waffles. But here's the thing – I'm not a fan of the long cooking time due to the weak heat from the plates. I'm thinking of investing in a proper waffle iron.

I'd recommend this appliance to anyone who doesn't enjoy cooking or lacks kitchen facilities, like when you're at the cottage. This panini press offers a lot of variety.
