I recently had the pleasure of watching the play 'Three Ivans' at the Pushkin Theatre, and I'm still grinning from ear to ear. The storyline's a familiar one - it's based on the same script as the classic Soviet film 'After the Rain on a Thursday'. But what I loved was how the production team brought it up to date for a modern audience.
The standout characters for me were Baba-Yaga and Koshchei. Who wouldn't want to see a modern take on these iconic figures? In the theatre, Baba-Yaga was played by the incomparable Irina Belyakova, who rocked a mean guitar - what a genius idea!
Koshchei, played by Sergey Miller, was also fantastic. I loved how they updated the character for a modern audience.
It's impossible to compare the two Babas - Peltser's was a classic, while Belyakova's was a fresh take. And the same goes for the two Koscheis - Tabakov and Miller brought their own unique energy to the role.
I have to say, this play was a real treat. It's a fun, dynamic show with plenty of laughs, beautiful sets and costumes, and a great musical score. My daughter and I had a fantastic time, and we're still singing the catchy lullaby from the show. One of the things that really impressed me was the theatre itself. The lobby is beautifully designed, with old posters and photos of famous actors on the walls. And the auditorium is really well laid out - even though we were sitting on the sides, we had a great view of the stage.
Here's a shot of the auditorium:
So, if you're looking for a fun and entertaining show to take the kids to, this is definitely worth checking out. I highly recommend it!
