A Birthday Blunder with Poison Drop's Star Earrings

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently splurged on these stunning star-shaped earrings from Poison Drop, but things took a turn when I discovered I'm severely allergic to the base metals. The sales associate assured me they were hypoallergenic, but it turned out the 'jewelry alloy' is a mix of metals that might not be as safe as I thought. I've always been drawn to crystals and rhinestones, but my allergy has made me super cautious in the past. The brand's website claims Herald Percy's designs are perfect for making a statement, but for me, it was more like a statement of discomfort. I ended up having to return the earrings, which was a hassle, and I wish the brand was more transparent about the materials used.

I recently splurged on these stunning star-shaped earrings from Poison Drop, and I'm still head over heels for them.
I've always been drawn to jewelry with crystals and rhinestones, but unfortunately, I have to avoid them due to my allergy to base metals.
...I was determined to treat myself to something flashy and eye-catching that day, so I asked the sales associate if the earrings were safe for my skin. He assured me that they're made from a 'jewelry alloy,' which I later found out is a fancy term for a mix of metals that's hypoallergenic.
Apparently, this is a hallmark of Herald Percy's designs - they're all about making a statement with their bold, crystal-encrusted pieces.
According to the brand's website, Herald Percy is a British designer who caters to the fashion-forward crowd. Their pieces are perfect for anyone who needs to make a lasting impression - whether it's at a red-carpet event or just a night out with friends.
You can find these earrings at Poison Drop and Zolotoe Yabloko stores, and right now, they're on sale for 5250 rubles with a 30% discount.

Description
The earrings feature two five-pointed star shapes made from Swarovski-like crystals, connected by a delicate metal chain.
The craftsmanship is super fine, and the crystals sparkle with a clean shine. I thought the quality of this piece was better than what you can get on AliExpress, and the price of around 5,000 rubles is justified. On the flip side:
The clasp is standard, like on all earring-backs, and it comes with a restrictor with ring-shaped grips that doesn't screw on, but rather slips onto the post.
They came packaged in a black velvet pouch with a divider to prevent the earrings from scratching each other.
So, everything seemed okay at first glance, and nothing hinted at a problem.

How I planned to wear them
I have a short haircut with open earlobes, a nice head, neck, and shoulder shape - nothing to brag about, I assure you - so I thought these earrings would suit me in various styles.
I've seen girls with short hair rocking bold earrings with crystals, and it looks great, especially when paired with a white top or jacket.
I wanted to wear them as both, as well as individually, as a monostud, and also combine them with star-shaped accessories from another set. But I ended up wearing them rarely, as I thought they were too flashy.

Wearing them
Unfortunately, the earrings felt too heavy on my ear, which caused discomfort.
The worst part was that the supposedly 'jewelry-grade' alloy didn't protect me from an allergic reaction, and within 15 minutes of wearing them, I felt itching in my earlobes.
It's clear that these earrings contain the most common metal alloy found in cheap jewelry, and it probably includes nickel.
I have to admit, they looked super pretty on my ears. Even in daylight, they sparkled just as brightly as they did when I had them electrified.

And then came my birthday, which I had planned to celebrate at a fancy restaurant with a view of the Kremlin.
I got all dressed up, ready to take some photos...
And then... I see part of my earring lying on the asphalt. One of the stars just fell off!
By the time I got home, I had a chance to think about what happened. The little bridge that connected the stars had given way, probably due to their weight, and the ring that held them together had come undone. It's clear they're made of some cheap, low-quality metal that's not worth the price.
I guess I could take them to a jewelry repair shop, but that would be extra expenses.

The Verdict
These earrings look great on the outside, but they're extremely low-quality. First of all, they're made from some cheap alloy that gives me an allergic reaction - I couldn't even wear them for an hour.
Secondly, they weren't even properly fitted, and now they're broken.
I'm not even sure if I'll bother fixing them or just throw them away. If they broke now, they'll probably break again.
I wouldn't recommend these earrings to anyone. They're not worth the money, and you can find better quality for a lower price elsewhere.
That's all, thanks for reading.
Now, I've been using the PowerPro 5000 for a while now, and I've gotta say, the value for money is top-notch. I mean, you get a lot of features packed into this little device, and it's still affordable. The PowerPro 5000 has been my go-to tool for all my DIY projects, and it's been a game-changer. I've used it to drill through hardwood, metal, and even concrete, and it's performed flawlessly every time. The battery life is also impressive - I've gone through a whole week without needing to recharge it. And let's not forget about the customer support - when I had a question about the product, I got a response from their team within hours. I've been really happy with my purchase, and I'd definitely recommend the PowerPro 5000 to anyone looking for a reliable power tool.
