A Mixed Bag of Experiences at the Veterinary Hospital on Pobedy Avenue

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently had a mixed bag of experiences at the veterinary hospital on Pobedy Avenue. What started as a good deed turned into a painful and sad experience, but it's also a valuable lesson. I'm sharing my story in the hopes that it might help someone else. The hospital's willingness to take in a dog hit by a car for free was commendable, but their follow-through was lacking. The dog's owner seemed to abandon it, and the hospital just left it to fend for itself. My neighbor and I couldn't just leave it, so we took it to the hospital ourselves. The whole ordeal was a real eye-opener, and I'm still trying to process it all. It's a tough situation to navigate, and it highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and clear communication between pet owners and veterinary clinics.

A Mixed Bag of Experiences at the Veterinary Hospital on Pobedy Avenue
Hello there!
I never thought I'd be writing a review like this, but a painful and sad experience has left me with a lot to say.
And if someone finds this information helpful, then it's worth sharing.
So, here's what happened.
Not far from our home, a dog was hit by a car.
A little while later, the dog showed up in our building's entrance. How it got there, nobody knew.
It was wearing a collar, no visible injuries, and at first, everyone thought it was waiting for its owner.
But as the day drew to a close, it didn't leave.
I decided to check with the nearby veterinary clinic, and they told me the dog had been hit, and they wanted to take it in for free, but they just left.
I posted about looking for the owner.
The dog wasn't eating, shaking, and moving around the entrance.
My neighbor and I couldn't just leave it, so we took it to the Veterinary Hospital on Pobedy Avenue.
The vet did an ultrasound, X-ray, and examination.
The verdict was pretty unclear - hematoma, internal bleeding in the stomach and bladder areas.
The ultrasound was just a bunch of scribbles...
They didn't give us the X-ray of the paws, but later sent it to me via email.
They said the chances were 50/50 and recommended emergency hospitalization (10,000 rubles for the first day and 5,000 for subsequent days).
But we don't have a hospital nearby!
They also said we needed to do a laparoscopy (26,000 rubles) to understand what's going on inside.
We didn't have any medical supplies with us, so we asked them to write out a treatment plan and took the pup back to the apartment.
Especially since we were hoping to find the owner.
For everything (excluding the medication we bought), we ended up paying around 4,000.
Here's the list of medication:
The next day, a girl reached out to me and said she recognized the pup as Izzy (he was a young Belgian Shepherd) due to his distinctive front legs.
She told me that the owner was a complete drunk who had been mistreating the dog, not feeding him, and that it was likely he had escaped (he lived far from us, in a different part of the city).
All of Izzy's neighbors loved him and would often feed him. He was such a sweet and playful pup!
Later, a volunteer girl messaged me, saying that they were raising funds for Izzy's treatment at a clinic.
While we were treating Izzy ourselves, giving him medication, he stayed with us in the apartment for 3 days.
He'd get up, drink a lot of water, and seemed to be getting better!
But I was worried that he wasn't eating anything, not even broth.
It was clear that he was in pain and something was off.
Finally, the volunteer called and said she'd arranged for Izzy to be taken to another clinic!
I was relieved and confident that they'd be able to help him and that everything would be okay.
The pup didn't want to leave, trying to sneak back into the apartment...
Hours later, the volunteer (who knew and loved Izzy) called and broke the devastating news - Izzy wouldn't make it! He had a ruptured gallbladder and his liver had completely failed!!
He didn't stand a chance; he was just quietly dying.
At the other clinic, they did an ultrasound and took blood for analysis, recommending that we not prolong his suffering and just put him down (euthanize him).
They also said that the list of medication we got from the hospital was huge, and even a healthy stomach wouldn't be able to handle it!
Say what? How could we not see the gallbladder rupture?!
How could they not suggest taking blood for analysis to see how his internal organs were functioning?!
And then they were pushing for a laparoscopy for 26,000 bucks!
Anyway, there are a lot of questions, but the answer kind of writes itself...
I knew we weren't going to get the best care, but we just wanted to help the poor animal out.
Later, I heard from other people that this hospital wasn't exactly the best place to take your pet.
By the way, prices here are way higher than at other vet clinics!
I've had two experiences with this hospital, and they couldn't be more different.
The first time, we took in a dog that had been hit by a car, and the vet's behavior was questionable at best.
But the second time, my cat had a dental issue, and the staff were friendly and attentive, explaining everything in detail and not pushing for any unnecessary procedures.
My cat received proper care and effective treatment.
Special thanks to the dentist at the clinic – a young and knowledgeable specialist.
Maybe it was just a matter of human factor or the professionalism of the doctors (we saw different people this time), but we had a positive experience this time.
I felt it was worth mentioning, without changing the original review.
Let it stay as is – each person can decide for themselves whether to take their pet here or not.
I've changed the rating to 3, although I could've given it a 4. But ratings aren't everything...
Always trust your instincts and experience!
Looking back, I wish we had taken Izzy to a different clinic from the start. Maybe things would have turned out differently.
But that's not the point of this review.
The point is to warn others about the Veterinary Hospital on Pobedy Avenue.
Be cautious and do your research before taking your pet there.
And if you do decide to go, make sure to ask plenty of questions and get a second opinion.
It's always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to the health and well-being of your furry friends.
So, if you're considering taking your pet to this hospital, I hope this review has been helpful.
And if you've had a similar experience, please share your story in the comments below.
Let's work together to create a safer and more compassionate community for all animals.
