The Pinocchio Fiasco: A Cringeworthy Experience

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'll admit, I was curious to see how this second attempt at a 3D animated movie would stack up. Unfortunately, Pinocchio's misstep is a cringeworthy experience that fails to deliver on its promise. The plot is weak and lacks real tension, making it hard to care about what's happening on screen. The characters' lines are often awkward and cringe-worthy, which doesn't help to make the story more believable. I'm still trying to figure out how the theater workers became friends with Burratino - it feels like a random addition to the story that doesn't add much to the plot. The whole thing feels unpolished and suspicious, like the filmmakers were trying to cram too many ideas into one movie. If you're looking for a good animated movie, keep searching.

I'll admit, I was curious to see how this second attempt at a 3D animated movie would stack up. It's still playing in theaters, so I decided to join the bandwagon.
PLOT
Surprisingly, the plot isn't as cringeworthy as I thought, but that's only if you don't think about how it's been adapted to fit modern realities.
The conflict is pretty weak and lacks any real tension.
Some of the lines are just plain awkward, and I cringed when I heard them.
He imagined giving his mom this jacket and his dad forgiving him and loving him again.
I feel uncomfortable when I'm not getting hit for a long time.
I know the original story is a bit weird, but this one is just too suspicious.
The story with the theater workers is also super unpolished.
Burratino, 2026, reviewsI'm still wondering how Burratino and the theater workers became friends.
They barely interacted at all...
The problem with this movie is that it just happens to be a 'vibe'. The script is all over the place.
Some scenes are just thrown together, but they didn't bother to write them properly.
And the dialogue... it's just cringeworthy.
CHARACTERS
Why are they all so cringeworthy?
Everyone's talking about Malvina in the title.
Like the others look normal.
But they don't.
They look like homeless people who've never seen a comb in their lives.
Burratino, 2026, reviewsI wish they'd all get a haircut, at least.
Zero percent of the characters are not off-putting.
Let alone likable.
The characters aren't developed, their actions aren't motivated.
They don't even reveal themselves through the classic songs.
THE ACTING
The worst part is that the movie has some decent actors.
The same girl who plays Malvina is in it.
And the guy who plays Harlequin is pretty good too.
The actor who plays Papa Carlo has also been in some good TV shows and done a great job.
Burrata, 2026, reviewsBut with their ridiculously over-the-top characters, it's hard to take them seriously in this absurd theater.
VISUALS
I knew from the ads that the visuals would be bad, but the first few shots of those cockroaches made me realize it was even worse than I thought.
Burrata, 2026, reviewsThen I saw Burrata.
What a monstrosity.
You know, even in Prostokvashino, there wasn't a picture as bad as this one.
Folks, you guys just can't do graphics.
Why even try if you don't have the skills or talent?
This thing looks like the illegitimate child of a neuron and a bad renderer.
Burrata, 2026, reviewsEven computer games have better visuals, and that's saying something, given how often they go for a super-low-poly design due to the constant action.I have no idea what went wrong with the visuals here.
At least they could have fit him into the environment properly.
Burrata, 2026, reviewsI'm a freak (with a smile) Burrata
For real, dude.
Even the character knows it's not okay to be that bad a model.
The character designs are what, exactly?
MEANING
There's just not much of it.
This is more like a failed attempt at a remake and adaptation.
Or maybe they were trying to show off the neuron's creativity?
Why not a bread maker, then?
The visuals are terrible, the script is all over the place, the characters are flat, and the dialogue is on par with a school play.
Childhood is a time of mistakes.
I have to admit, I was expecting a lot more from this movie.
I watched it at 1.5x speed, and that was a lifesaver.
Without the speed boost, I wouldn't have made it through this snooze fest.
THE VERDICT
I'm not going to sugarcoat it: Pinocchio is a total disappointment.
