PepsiCo's Sneaky Move: A Soft Drink That's Not So Soft

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently stumbled upon Drive Me Max Soft Drink, a new offering from PepsiCo that's got everyone talking. With the energy drink ban in effect, it's no surprise that PepsiCo found a way to get around it. But what's the deal with this 'non-energy drink'? I picked up a bottle for 90 rubles with a discount, which is a pretty sweet price. But is it worth the hype? I'm not sure yet, but I'll give you the lowdown on my experience so far.

Hello everyone.
The energy drink ban came into effect this year, and PepsiCo found a way to get around it by releasing a non-energy drink under its guise. What did they come up with?
&xa0;
Drive Me Max Soft Drink&xa0;
I first stumbled upon Drive Me Max Soft Drink at Samokat about a week ago. What's interesting is that it wasn't featured on the website with pictures, so you can buy it without a passport. I thought it was a mistake, but as it turned out, it wasn't. After buying it, I discovered that it's not a 'tonic drink,' but just a regular lemonade with some unique features.
Barcode: 4600494680922
&xa0;
&xa0;
As for the price, I paid 90 rubles with a discount. Without it, it would cost a whopping 120 rubles. And let's be real, I can understand paying 100+ rubles for a new Adrenaline flavor.
The packaging looks just like the original Drive Me, with the only difference being the lack of labels claiming it's an energizing drink. The design is done in a youthful style, and it's clear that the manufacturer is targeting a specific audience.
&xa0;
&xa0;
The drink's color is a sour-green, just like the classic energy drink Drive Me Max.
The aroma is barberry-like, slightly chemical.
&xa0;
&xa0;
When I poured it, a lot of foam formed, and it even seemed like it was super-carbonated. But the carbonation dissipates within the first 3-4 minutes, so it's best to drink it immediately.
&xa0;
&xa0;
So, what's the taste like? The Original Taste flavor is unmistakably barberry. In my opinion, it tastes exactly the same as its energy drink sibling.
&xa0;
Drink Drive Me Max
I have to admit, the only thing that didn't sit well with me was the disgusting aftertaste of the sweeteners in the first few sips. I even considered giving it the lowest rating. However, I got used to it, and the taste no longer seemed as unpleasant.
But here's the interesting part. If this is a lemonade, then what's the unique feature about it? They've added a couple of vitamins and caffeine. Apparently, according to the law, an energy drink is considered a product with caffeine and taurine. Since there's no second one, it's all legit.
And yes, it does give you a slight boost, but the effect is nowhere near that of an actual energy drink. So, if you're looking for a pick-me-up, welcome to the energy drink section.
Drink Drive Me Max
The Verdict
This 'lemonade' will definitely appeal to those who, by law, can't buy energy drinks. And yeah, it should be sold without a passport. But we're in Russia, aren't we?
In other words, I don't see the point of it. So-so taste, unpleasant aftertaste, and it's even more expensive than an energy drink.
