A Budget Birdseed That Falls Short: My Honest Review of Grandmix for Cockatiels

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been feeding my cockatiel, Gosh, Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for Cockatiels for over three months now, and it's been a real mixed bag. The food has a huge volume, but the price reflects that. I love spoiling Gosh with sticks, biscuits, and fruit, but this birdseed just doesn't cut it. The lack of fruits is a major letdown, and I'm not a fan of the artificial colors in the biscuits. To be honest, I think it's not worth the value for money. Still, I'm giving it a try, hoping it'll improve.

I've had the pleasure of sharing my home with a lovely cockatiel named Gosh for over eight years now, and it's been a wild ride.
We've tried letting him out of his cage a few times, but it's always been a bit of a disaster. He'd fly into a corner, cling to the curtains, or – like one time – get stuck behind the kitchen table for three whole days! I was convinced I'd never see him alive again, but thankfully, all was well in the end...
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsSo, that's our feathered friend living his best life in his cage. I love spoiling him with sticks, biscuits, and fruit – of course, he also needs his regular food!
I've been feeding Gosh Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for Cockatiels for over three months now, and I have to admit, it's been an interesting experience. The thing is, it's got a huge volume, but the price reflects that.
***Packaging***
The box the food comes in is a sturdy cardboard one with a stylish and eye-catching design. It's definitely one of the better-looking birdseed boxes I've seen.
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsThe product information is printed on the back of the box, but it's in multiple languages. I'm not sure why they couldn't just stick to one language, but I guess that's just me being picky.
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsVolume: 1 kg, which is a decent size for a birdseed. Price: ~450 rub, which is a bit steep for my taste.
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsInside, you'll find a bag of food. I wish it had a ziplock, but I just store it in the original packaging. It's not the most convenient thing to deal with, but it gets the job done.
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for Cockatiels***Ingredients***
I'm pretty happy with the ingredient mix here – it's got a good balance of vitamins, manganese, and iodine. It's not the most exciting thing to read about, but it's definitely a plus.
***Characteristics***
When I was at the pet store, the staff recommended this food because it's supposed to have a great crunch and outdo its more budget-friendly competitors. I'm not sure if it lives up to those expectations, but it's definitely a nice change of pace from the usual birdseed.
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsOne thing that really stands out is the complete lack of odor. I also appreciate that there's no filler or husk. It's a small thing, but it's definitely a plus.
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for Cockatiels***Results***
As you'd expect, there's oats and corn (you can't have one without the other!). I also see the colorful granules, which I initially thought were veggies or fruits. But it turns out they're actually baked goods – specifically, a type of cookie that's been colored. My bird doesn't seem to be interested in eating that cookie, and to be honest, I wouldn't feed it to him either – there's just too much artificial coloring involved.
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsHere's what the food looks like after my bird's had a go:
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsBut the one thing that really disappoints is the complete lack of fruits, despite the manufacturer's claims. It's just weird – they even have a picture of an apple on the packaging! That's a major minus in my book.
***Conclusion***
Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for CockatielsI was pretty underwhelmed by Padovan Cocorite Grandmix for my Cockatiel. It's just the usual stuff – millet and oats, nothing special. I won't be buying it again anytime soon.
P.S. If you want to check out my reviews on other products for Cockatiels, I've got a few recommendations:
1. My Cockatiel's absolute favorite treats – Versele-Laga's Palokki
2. Another great product from the same manufacturer – Obzharennyi Korm
3. Smorodinovyie Palochki – a great budget-friendly treat for my feathered friend
4. Mineralnyi Kamen' "Chika" – a product that's been sitting on our shelf for over a year
