I've been using the Navitel DMR 450 GPS for a while now, and it's genuinely made a huge difference to my daily driving. The interface is super intuitive, so it's easy to use on the fly. I've been really impressed with the build quality, and it's been a solid addition to my car.

My Roadside Guardian: A Honest Review of the Navitel DMR 450GPS Dash Cam

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been driving around with the Navitel DMR 450GPS for a week now, and I gotta say, it's been a total game changer. The build quality is seriously impressive, with solid buttons that feel premium. The battery life is longer than I expected, and it's been a lifesaver on long road trips. I've been using it to capture my daily commute, and it's been a great way to document my travels. The GPS feature is super accurate, and it's been a huge help in navigating unfamiliar areas. One thing I wish they'd improved is the rear-view mirror's adjustability - it takes some getting used to. But overall, I'm really happy with this purchase, and I think it's worth every penny.

I've been wanting a dash cam for ages, and my husband finally got around to buying one - but he couldn't decide on a model. Finally, he surprised me with the Navitel DMR 450GPS, and now I'm driving around with it.

Unboxing
The dash cam comes in a sleek white box that reminds me of an iPhone box. I was impressed by the packaging, to be honest.
UnboxingThe box is really nice to the touch, and it's covered in a thin plastic sheet that you need to tear off to open it.
The unboxing experience is great - if you're looking for a gift, this is a good option. Navitel has done a great job of making a mundane device like a dash cam look more premium. It's clear they've put some thought into the packaging.

Contents
Inside the box, I found:

The rear-view mirror with the built-in dash cam. This was the main reason I was excited to try it out.
Rear-View Mirror with CameraA power cable that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter. The rear camera.

Installation in the car
To be honest, we initially thought about having the entire installation done at the car dealership where we bought the car. We found out the price was around 30,000 rubles. It was too much money to spend, considering the job would only take about an hour. So, my husband installed the entire package himself. I was right next to him, observing the whole process. It was a long time to watch...
Rearview mirror with built-in monitor and Navitel DMR 450GPS video recorder First, my husband hung the rearview mirror. It's incredibly easy to install. The package comes with two special straps that allow you to attach the video recorder to the standard rearview mirror.
The device is inserted into the cigarette lighter Then, we connected the power cable from the video recorder to the cigarette lighter. Luckily, no one in our family smokes, but I got used to seeing the green Navitel logo lighting up from the corner of my eye for a while.
My husband's attempt to hide the wiring didn't quite go as planned He tried to sneak the cord out of sight, but the first attempt was a total fail – the cord was dangling, obstructing my view. He felt embarrassed and decided to redo the whole thing. With a bit more effort, he managed to get it sorted.
xa0
He attached the rear camera to the back window of the trunk, and it's adjustable – you can choose the right angle. Just make sure you don't mount it upside down. Unfortunately, we couldn't hide the wiring as neatly as we did with the front camera. Some of it runs through the door seals, while the rest is hidden under the floor mats.
Inputs and outputs
I was thinking of using the rear camera for backing up, so you can see what's behind you while reversing. There's a separate cable pack for that, but since our car already has a rearview camera that activates automatically when we shift into reverse, we didn't need that feature. xa0
How the dashcam works
The dashcam is connected to the cigarette lighter. Thankfully, we don't use it, so it's always plugged in. When I start the engine, the dashcam turns on automatically. Interestingly, it keeps recording for about a minute after I turn off the engine.
When it's connected to the lighter, the Navitel logo light is always on. When I start the car, the camera display flickers on the rearview mirror for a second before disappearing. Later, the mirror returns to its normal state.
Navitel DMR 450GPS Rearview Mirror with Integrated Monitor and Video Recorder To be honest, the rearview mirror itself is a bit of a letdown compared to the original. The image looks like it's been dimmed, but you barely notice it during the day. The biggest downside is that it slightly distorts the image. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying. You're driving, and the image in the mirror seems to lag by a fraction of a second and 'stretches.' I got used to it eventually, but at first, I thought I'd never be able to drive with this 'brake.'
If I were to buy another video recorder in the future, I'd probably opt for a separate one instead of one integrated into the rearview mirror.
Quick setup guide. And the rearview mirror has touch-sensitive buttons. By the way, let's talk about settings. You can adjust all the settings directly on the video recorder. The buttons on the rearview mirror are touch-sensitive (I immediately pictured how many fingerprints would be on this thing... Gross!).There, you can also set the time it takes for the recorder to shut off after you start the engine, as well as the recording length in minutes. The factory settings included recording conversations in the cabin, which I immediately turned off. Can you imagine if my husband ended up listening to our conversations with my friend while I was driving?
You can also manage settings through the app. The QR code in the manual will guide you to the app store for both Apple and Android devices.
You won't find a microSD card in the package, and without one, the dash cam won't work. Luckily, my husband had a spare at home, so he quickly installed it, but it's not a big deal to buy a new one now. I'm not even sure what capacity the microSD card I got is – but the main thing is that the video editor works and records.
This is what the video looks like in the recording Now, let me tell you about the recordings. The image quality is simply stunning! Everything is super clear. We copied the video to our computer at some point, and it's so detailed that we couldn't even imagine it. Not just the road environment, but even all the license plates are readable. Whether it's nighttime or daytime.
The Verdict
I'm really impressed with this dash cam:
It's super easy to set up and install. The settings are also pretty straightforward. The recording quality is so good that we didn't even know what to expect. It works stably, never hangs, and never shuts down. The only significant drawback is the screen itself, which isn't very comfortable. I had to get used to its darkness and the delay in the image.

I highly recommend the Navitel DMR 450GPS dash cam and think it deserves 5 stars.
