My Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Review: Why I'm Disappointed

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was really looking forward to trying out the Tangle Teezer blow-styling tool, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. After using it for a few weeks, I've got some mixed feelings about its performance. Here's the lowdown on what worked and what didn't.

I was really excited to try out the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling comb, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations.
First of all, let me say that I'm a total hair enthusiast, and I was looking forward to trying out this new tool.
But, as soon as I started using it, I realized that it wasn't as easy to use as I thought it would be.
The Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling comb comes in two sizes:
First up (this is mine)
Rascheska for long and medium hair Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Full Paddle
255x80x42mm
And the second one:
Rascheska for short and medium hair Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Half Paddle
240x68x40mm
I was expecting a lot from this comb, but unfortunately, it didn't deliver.
Check out the packaging:
One thing to note: this blow dryer brush is NOT for detangling your hair - it's specifically designed for styling and adding volume to your locks!
This blow dryer brush is a game-changer for anyone who wants to achieve salon-quality hair at home.
The teeth on this brush are designed to mimic the shape of kegels - they're super effective at picking up tangles and adding volume to your hair.
The teeth are made from a special material that's designed to absorb excess moisture from your hair - this helps them dry quickly and prevents breakage.
One of the things I love most about this blow dryer brush is that it's gentle on my hair - the teeth don't tug or pull, which makes it perfect for curly or fragile hair.
Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling was created by renowned British hair expert Sh. Palfray - he's a genius when it comes to hair care!
Now that we've got the blow dryer brush out of the way, let's talk about me.
I've got long, straight hair. I've got a brush for styling, but I physically can't stretch it out to cover the entire length of my hair, and I struggle to wrap the nozzle of my blow dryer in the right spot without my hair slipping off the brush. I end up having to reposition the brush 10 times or so... (I'm pretty sure I'd look ridiculous if I could capture my expression in a selfie)
Let's be real, I do sometimes blow dry with a brush, but it's not a regular occurrence because it's just not that convenient for me! I want to style my hair, not just dry it with a blow dryer!
That's why I decided to take the plunge and buy a detangling comb with a handle. The TT BS comb has a shape that works for me (that's what I thought, anyway).
I know my readers might not be able to accurately assess the styling results on the TT BS, given that my hair isn't curly or wavy – it's just straight. But I'll give you the lowdown, straight from the horse's mouth.
When it comes to styling with the TT BS (just like with a brush), I need my hair to be nicely separated, with the ends tamed and my hair looking piecey. I'm also not opposed to adding some volume.
How I use the TT BS.
First things first, I heat up the comb with my blow dryer!
My hair needs to be damp, not soaking wet (I aim for 30-40% moisture left).
If the nozzle of the blow dryer looks like it's not in the right spot on the photos, it's because they're actually screenshots from a video.
My impressions:
1. First off, this comb (and it does it every time!) burns my hands.
The issue is that the central line on the comb (there are three in total, check the photos above) ends where the surface with the bristles starts, but it actually extends all the way down to the handle and ends about a third of the way down. So, the hot air from the blow dryer gets sucked into this little crevice and then blasts into my hand. Not fun.
I try to hold the comb by the handle, but it's not always the most convenient, and I end up grabbing it in the middle (which, let's be real, is where it's most comfortable for me) and the hot air still manages to find its way into my hand.
2. You won't see this on the photos, but it's also super prone to tangling my hair into a knot – I spent ages trying to untangle it and got frustrated, which isn't ideal.
3. The comb itself isn't super comfortable to use because the bristles are just so stiff. I think if I used a little bit of force, it would be able to handle any weight and not bend its tines.
4. Maybe I'm just used to my Elit comb, but if something goes wrong during blow-drying, it'll just effortlessly detangle the knotty bits and I can continue drying my hair without a hitch. Not so with the TT BS.
One thing that really bugged me is when I had to detangle my hair. This thing is supposed to make it easy, but it's actually a chore. If my hair's knotted, it can't even get through 10% of it. The bristles are super weird, and I have to shut off the blow dryer, grab my Elite, and start all over again.
5. No styling effect at all. On one side, I've got the monster's attempt at styling, and on the other, I've got a quick blowout using a regular brush.
This thing can't even get my ends right. It's like it's supposed to do something, but it just can't. The blow dryer blows my ends right off its surface - it's some kind of nonsense.
6. To get the detangling tool to grip my hair properly, I have to force it through my hair. It's not exactly intuitive. In short, it doesn't work that well.
Verdict.
It's just gathering dust. I don't even want to pick it up.
And honestly, it looks like those little gardening tools you use to aerate soil. Or a mermaid's fork.
Country of origin: England.
Price in Russia:
Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Full Paddle 2420 rubles.
Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Half Paddle 2180 rubles.
Would I recommend the TT BS? No. Not to anyone. Get a regular blow dryer and enjoy your hair.
Another hair tool that I think is useless and just overhyped.
Check out my hair care routine, with tons of photos from different stages of my hair's life, plenty of good tips, and just my take on everything hair-related, 7 years of experience, in this review.
