Our Furry Friends' New Favorite: A Motion-Sensing Water Fountain That's a Game-Changer When We're Away

summarizeEditor's Summary

We recently upgraded our old water fountain to a motion-sensing one, and it's been a total game-changer for our furry friends when we're away. The new design with a small overflow basin works out great for both us and the cats. The 2.2-liter tank ensures we don't have to refill it too often, even in our hot apartment. I'm really impressed with the build quality and battery life, and the cats love it. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it is, even when the motor kicks in. We've had it for a while now, and it's been a great addition to our home.

▶ Hello everyone, and to all your furry friends!

I recently replaced our old fountain with a new one after the old one finally gave up after 4 years of use. It had its share of motor replacements and other issues, but in the end, it just couldn't keep up. We had to find new filters multiple times, which was getting pretty hard, so we decided it was time for a change.
our old fountainOur old fountain had a weird goose-neck design with a stream of water, but this time around, we went for a fountain with a small overflow basin, which surprisingly worked out great for both us and the cats!
We chose a big 2.2-liter tank to ensure we didn't have to refill it too often, especially since our apartment gets pretty hot and the water evaporates quickly from the old basin. Our older cat loves drinking from the shower, but since I'm not always home, it's not practical to keep the shower running for his highness.
Here's a picture of our cat enjoying his drink:
our cat's favorite drinking spotThe new fountain cost us 1600 rubles, which I think is a pretty fair price for the quality we got. The description wasn't very clear, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a motion sensor that turns on the fountain when the cats enter the kitchen. It's a really nice feature that our old fountain didn't have.
I've got to say, the pouring bowl is a total game-changer - it's super convenient, and the flowing water is just what our cat needed. When we had a simple bowl, he'd always check for water with his paw and would get a bit testy if it wasn't filled to his liking. With the fountain, those kinds of antics are a thing of the past.
The fountain arrived in a compact cardboard box with all the necessary information about the product. I have to say, the previous fountain was bigger in diameter but smaller in volume. This one is oval-shaped and tall, which makes it perfect for saving space.
The box also includes a step-by-step assembly guide and a manual, which I honestly read, tried to follow, and ended up getting frustrated and calling my husband for help.
This fountain turned out to be smarter than me, I swear! It came with way more extra parts than I expected, and I was left wondering what to do with them all.
So, the fountain's packaging included the 2.2-liter plastic bowl, a water reservoir, a small pouring bowl in the shape of a cat's head, a sensor in the form of a flower, a filter, an adapter, and a bunch of cables.
The cup came with a protective film to prevent scratches, which was a nice touch – I had to peel it off carefully.
Everything's white, including the motor, which has a ridiculously long cord – I've never seen anything like it! I also noticed a clever detail that sets this fountain apart from others: the motor has a sponge filter to prevent hair from clogging it. Kudos to the manufacturer for thinking ahead!
The motor has suction cups on the bottom to keep the sensor submerged in water, which is more than I can say for the motion sensor's suction cup, which is clearly not doing its job.
I appreciate that all the cords came with adapters – not many manufacturers do that nowadays. I was worried I'd have to buy separate adapters for this thing!
The cup itself is super cute – it's shaped like a cat's head with adorable ears!
The motion sensor comes in the form of a flower, which changes color when it detects movement – green when the fountain's on, red when it's off.
The sensor has its own long cable and a connector to the main cable that leads to the network.
I love that the manufacturer included a tiny brush for cleaning the motor! It's just so thoughtful... that's really sweet!

There was also a blue water filter included. It goes into an additional plastic compartment that attaches to the transparent cup from underneath.
The fountain works pretty quietly, much quieter than my previous one that had water pouring out. And if my cats got used to the previous fountain in a couple of weeks, they figured this one out in just a day - they really love it! The motor lights up the water with a blue glow, you can see it during the day and at night.
Getting the motion sensor to stick to the suction cup was a bit of a challenge.
I've got to say, this thing looks amazing at night - it's like having a pool with underwater lighting at a resort! And I'm really glad it's got a motion sensor, so the motor isn't constantly running and wasting energy. The manufacturer clearly learned from past mistakes: there's a filter on the motor, a brush for cleaning, a sensor, great lighting, and even the height and capacity are spot on for me. This thing is a real winner.
Now we don't have to worry about our poor kitties going thirsty while we're away.
Speaking of which, we also got an automatic feeder for when we're away, check it out here.
