Why I'm Running from Max-M Insurance

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been dealing with Max-M insurance for years, but lately, things have taken a turn for the worse. I've had some major issues with my policy, and as someone who's relied on their health insurance for years, I gotta say, it's been a real challenge. I've had no problems with coverage in my current region, but I did have a close call when I was four months pregnant - the maternity hospital refused to see me because of my insurance policy number, which was tied to my old region. That was a total letdown, but I didn't make a big deal out of it. Now, I'm seriously considering switching to a new provider. I've had some good experiences with Max-M, too - their customer support has been good when I've had issues, and it's easy to file claims and get reimbursed. But the regional restrictions on policy numbers can be a real problem, and customer service can be pretty rude at times. I'm not sure if it's worth it for me anymore.

Hello there!
I've had to deal with MAX-M insurance for years, and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride. In the city where I used to live, they were the only game in town. My health insurance is with them, and I've never had any issues - until recently.
I've been living in a different region for a while now, and I've never had any problems with my health insurance coverage. I even gave birth in another region without any issues.
But one time, I did have a problem. I was four months pregnant and went to the maternity hospital's clinic, but they refused to see me because of my insurance policy number. It turned out that the first digits of the policy number are the code for the region where it was issued. So, the hospital only accepted people with their own region code. They politely sent me home, but told me that if I'd come with a referral from the housing office or arrived by ambulance, they would have definitely seen me. Since it wasn't a critical issue, I didn't make a big deal out of it.
And now, it seems like all the medical drama is behind me. But I decided to register in another region, specifically in Voronezh.
I heard that I need to notify the insurance company about the change of address. However, I don't know where the Voronezh office is, and if it even exists.
I was also wondering what to do if the insurance company isn't represented in the city I'm moving to. And what to do with the policy number, which will still point to a different region?
To start, I decided to call the numbers listed in my trusty navigator. There were two numbers: a mobile one and a landline one. Of course, the mobile one was off. The landline one was busy. After multiple attempts, I realized that it wasn't busy because the staff were busy helping clients, but because I'm not the only one trying to get through.
Next, I decided to find other contacts for this insurance company. I took a closer look at my policy and found a number on the back side.
I had the same issue with short beeps. I tried calling the customer service for over 30 minutes, but I couldn't get through.
At that point, I decided to keep looking. My frustration was starting to get the better of me.
I went online and checked the insurance company's website. They had a hotline number listed. After a few attempts, I finally managed to reach an operator.
This was the worst conversation of my life.
A girl picked up the phone. She didn't introduce herself. I explained my problem to her, and she told me that I had called the Moscow office. I was relieved, but then I realized that the hotline wasn't even supposed to be divided by region. She just kept insisting that I wasn't in her jurisdiction.
The girl continued to argue with me. I asked her to help me, but she refused. Then she gave me a plan of action, but 30 seconds later, she contradicted herself. I was getting frustrated, so I hung up.
The aftermath of that conversation was so upsetting that I couldn't just leave it alone. I wrote a complaint on their website.
Later that evening, I received a call from the insurance company. A woman introduced herself as some kind of manager. She told me that she had reviewed my complaint, listened to my story, and... my call never happened.
According to them, I must have imagined the whole thing. It was a pretty strange way to handle the situation, if you ask me.
-Do you see the squirrel?
-No
-Oh, he's there
It's like that with my call. They just pretended it never happened.
The conversation with the manager made a few things clear to me.
One of them was that you need to run from Maks-M with your tail between your legs.
When I asked about transferring my policy to a different region, no one could give me a straight answer. They suggested I just leave the policy as is, but add a note. Where? On the plastic card? I was supposed to carry it with me? I got the card to make things easier, not to have to carry a separate note.
In the end, I decided to switch insurance companies. They answered my questions right away, without any hassle or nonsense. It took them a few minutes, not a whole day.
I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to need urgent help from the insurance company and be unable to get through. The lack of customer support was appalling.
I wouldn't recommend Maks-M to anyone!
I hope this review was helpful.
My take on visiting the 'My Documents' MFC was a real eye-opener.

live_helpFeatured FAQ

What are the regional restrictions on Max-M insurance policy numbers?

The first digits of your policy number are tied to the region where it was issued. This can cause issues if you move to a different region and try to use your insurance.

How hard is it to get help over the phone with Max-M insurance?

To be honest, it can be pretty tough to get someone on the phone who knows what they're doing. You might end up waiting on hold for a while or getting transferred to someone who doesn't speak your language.

What happens if I try to use my Max-M insurance out of network?

You'll likely get reimbursed at a lower rate than if you'd gone to an in-network provider. It's worth double-checking the rates before you head to the doctor.

Can I return my Max-M insurance policy if I'm not happy?

The return policy is pretty strict, so you'll want to read the fine print carefully before signing up.

How does the Max-M insurance online portal work?

The portal is pretty user-friendly, but the battery life can be a bit short. You might need to recharge it every few days.

Are there any discounts available for Max-M insurance?

I'm not aware of any discounts currently available, but it's always worth asking when you sign up.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my Max-M insurance policy?

The refund policy is pretty standard, but you'll want to check the details carefully before canceling.

How do I file a claim with Max-M insurance?
